  • Starting Opioid treatment soon - A few questions

Sorry for so many posts lately, I am hoping to learn a bunch for all of you as this is all so new to me and quite a bit frightening.

Finally got in to see the pain specialist and the idea is to start me on Suboxone/Buprenorphine patch which is an opioid. From doing my home work, I guess it is usually used to treat opioid addiction but also used for pain.

I was hoping a few people could give me some positive infomation or experiences with starting on an opioid for IC, if there is such a thing.

I have no idea what to expect.

And also if it helps much with the pain. I'm also really hoping my personality doesn't change. I hope I will still be me.

You will still be you. You may get a little sleepy when you first start pain medications, but that should pass soon.

            Suboxone/Buprenorphine patch

I'm very interested in learning more about this. My pain doctor switched me from Percocet to Opana (a form of morphine)--but the dose is too low and don't know yet whether they'll raise it since they think I'm a drug dealer since I tested negative for the Percocet.

It would be great not to not have to be constipated all the time.

Is this something you can do for a long time? Because I've been in a flare for over three years and I don't have much faith in having a remission anytime soon.

            Thanks.

            Maxine

              Hi Maxine,

I start in two weeks, so can't really give you any information just yet, other than my pain medication guy said I will have to be on it for a while, well over two months. So, I think it can be takin for some time, however don't know how long.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I will let you know as I know if you'd like.
