  • MSM - Where to get it in Australia?

    Hi everybody,

(This is Kev, husband of holly, using her account while waiting for mine to be authorised, hope you don't mind my stepping in here)

We're looking at trying MSM and and was wondering if anyone else in Australia had given it a try, and if so, where they'd bought it.

I have searched around a little and found that {company name deleted by user} offers to deliver internationally : ... seems to be amongst the best standard of the product, and in some of the best forms.

I tried a number of online pharmacies, but in almost all cases found that MSM with Glucosamine seems only to come in the form where the Glucosamine has chondroitin, which we want to avoid, at this point, anyway.

Then I found a couple of sites in Australia. :
This site states they sell pure organic sulphur. They are based in WA.

    and

This site also claims that the MSM is pure. They don't seem to say where they are, though.

Just a bit concerned, as holly says, that we don't take delivery of a packet of corn starch!

So if anyone has already got some from Aust and can recommend a supplier, we'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks!

    Kev

    Hi Kev,

If you can not find msm glucosamine in australia you might want to try Cystoprotek in the ICN Shop that has the active ingredients as well as other ones.

When I was looking for it I couldnt find it anywhere. be sure that it doesnt contain any acids in it.

Just saying 'hello' Kev. I have never used MSM, so cannot help you or Holly in your quest.
However, it is wonderful to see you supporting and caring so much. Goodonya Kev!

Hi folks, okay I now have my own profile up and running (this is Kev), thanks for the responses. We have just ordered some MSM from the WA company, and the glucosamine that holly has been ordering from before the whole IC issue came up, so that's two of the three things we're after, as we're also going to look for Quercetin (sp?).

Obviously if we find out any major surprises good or bad with this experiment we'll fill you all in!

Definitely WILL steer clear of any that mention acids, and are probably not going to try the cystoprotek yet as the jury seems to still be out on whether chondroiton help or hinders, or helps some and hinders others. Cystoprotek seems to have the glucosamine that comes with chondroitin. Thanks for the suggestion though, have bookmarked the guys that sell that stuff.

Well I've been my fair share of trouble for holly over the years and she's always supported me ... I've got the easy part in this quest!

Ok well had good response, a confirmation of order processed today already, I can hardly get a taxi here that quickly these days!

I also note the site web addresses were removed due to connotations of advertising. Fair enough. I removed the Co name for the other one too to keep it consistent. I'll cease mention of the suppliers and if someone wants to know what we find out, please contact me privately so that I don't end up spamming the thread with the outcome!

          Still on the Quercetin trail

              Chondrotin

              Hi Kev,
I was reading just yesterday, under success stories, about the fellow that had huge improvement on glucosamine/msm . Yesterday I purchased the G tabs along with MSM powder as I could not find them together in 1 tab. Any way, I looked at the internet this morning and you can get them in the US but they do have this Chondrotin in the tabs as well. May I ask why you are anti this. as I really don't want to make myself any worse. BELOW is an explanation of Chondrotin from the internet.
Chondroitin and similar compounds are present in the lining of blood vessels and the urinary bladder. They help prevent abnormal movement of blood, urine, or components across the barrier of the vessel or bladder wall. Part of chondroitin’s role in blood vessels is to prevent excessive blood clotting remains unclear. However, whether supplements of chondroitin are able to favorably affect blood clotting. In addition, chondroitin sulfate may lower blood cholesterol levels.5 Older preliminary research showed that chondroitin sulfate may prevent atherosclerosis in animals and humans and may also prevent heart attacks in people who already have atherosclerosis.6 7 8

I was about to order the tabs. I would be interested to see what you think
The fellow also took Quercetin as well
              Would love your feed back

                Msm

                Hi Kev AGAIN,
As mentioned in my other thread , I purchased MSM in powder form from a healthfood shop in the Toorak Villiage. It is by Eagle and is pure MSM.
I also purchased Quercetain. Now this is interesting, as it contains Bromelains which comes from the stem of a pineapple, yet it is supposed to be citrus free. I am taking this back to question them abou this.
Also, I bought Dr Jacobs MSM topical gel from the US and I did find this really good when I was bad last year. I have started using this again. It is the best for external ural burn.

Hi Jodi, apologies for late response. It sounds promising that there seems to be a higher availability of "these stuffs" than I had guessed at first. As we are making a visit to Malvern Armadale for a doctors apptnmnt tomorrow, I might have to wander up to Toorak Village as well for the Quercetin. Very interesting about the pineapple bromelain. Holly is more up with what's in and what's out for fruit, and she's also got a likely fructose issue, but something from the stem ... I wonder how pineapply, pineapple stem is!

Re the chondroitin, intersting info there, where was that written? We're not entirely against chondroitin at this point. That thread about the bloke who is doing so well with MSM and Gluc, there were posts on there tossing both pros and cons about chondroitin. I thought it best to find the stuff without chondroitin for a start. Pure MSM, Gluc (alone) and Quercetin, seem to be almost beyond reproach, but if chondroitin is something the jury is still out on, we are leaning towards starting without it, for a start, anyway. Otherwise if this stuff doesn't help, we won't know if its cos it doesn't help, or because there's chondroitin in it!

Yep the gel seems to help a lot of people, we're just looking in-country for a start. Holly had 1/4 tsp of msm for the first time yesterday and apparently it tasted fairly bad ... was that the case for you too?

So many pieces to the puzzle. Thanks very much for your posts! Toorak Village is far less overwhelming than Chaddy!

                  Take care,

                  Kev

                    Msm

                    Hi Kev,
The MSM tastes awful. Hate it.
I would definitely suggest the MSM gel from OS though. I have bought 2 lots now and have had no problems at all.
I purchased Glucosamine Sulphate by itself at the GNC store at Chadstone. I bought the last one, but you could try other GNC stores. I only did this on the weekend.
Now I am just looking for citrus free Q.

Ahh ok, holly will feel less alone with the off taste of the MSM when I tell her you hate it too.

Tryin' to think what the GNC store is, I know the VitaminMe and the one above it.

We're pretty busy with appointments today. Now there's also the possibility that it may not be IC at all, but all fibroid-related stuff! So the plot just thickened even further. Holly hasn't had the MSM again since the first one because of this fibroid angle. Probably should be taking it though. Heck, *I* should be taking it! Too many things to take and not enough time to take them!

                      Kev

                        Gnc

If you look up GNC outlets you will find that there are a few of them around Melb. They are healthfood shops.

                          Hi jodi,

I got a bit confused and when I found the GNC at Chaddy, I went in looking for Quercetin! They said its not allowed in Australia

Realised later you were talking about Gluc at GNC ... luckily hollyd has no trouble finding gluc, has been taking it well before the whole IC topic came up for her.

Ok so back to checking out the deal with bromelain (pineapple stem) as a likely citrus no-no, and if so, somehow getting hold of Q without bromelain!

On the MSM Gel subject, we did get it and are into the second day of application. Fingers crossed!

                          Take care

                            Quercitin

                            [Hi kev,
I actually bought my non citrus Q and MSM with Glucosamen only from the US.
I am also taking Serrapeptase again also from the US. Using the MSM gel morning and night and I have definitely improved about 50%.
