  • Has anyone been to or tried the UBC Hospital Bladder Care Centre

    Hey gals,

I know that we are meeting up in the next couple of weeks, but since my symptoms are starting to creep back as Landon isn't breastfeeding as much now (his choice, not mine arggg), I have been checking out some various new Urologists and other options (might give natropathic medicine a go).

Has anyone been going or tried the UBC Hospital Bladder Care Centre???I saw that they had a link in regards to IC.

    Thanks, Amanda

    Hi Amanda,

Sorry to hear that. I called for an appt with a Dr. Lynn Strothers there last Sept but I believe it was a very long wait. I still wonder about the Urologist that I have been seeing if I like her or not. Now I am kind of interested in this Centre (I don't care how far anymore!) We will have to bring it up at the meeting.

There is also a Urologist listed by the same name in an office on Burrard St...

Have you been to Dr. Teichman's IC clinic at St. Paul's? I fly from Fort St. John to see him. I am interested in the one at UBC as well. Keep us updated. I am on a wait list to see a urogyno in Calgary...referred by Dr. Teichman for another approach. She is doing some new research trials.

Topamax severe nausea and weight loss
Oxycodone: I could tolerate if I used it for flares only...not for extended use due to constipation

What helps IC: yoga/meditation are my current treatments along with chiropractic and pelvic physiotherapy and acupuncture

Hi Kris, for sure I will keep you informed on any info I get on the UBC Bladder Care Clinic. I don't know if Amanda found out anything more as she was not at our last meeting. But someone there did mention that Lynn Stothers is now just working with patients that have urinary incontinence.
I did have Dr. Teichman in mind when I was looking for a Uro back last August but chose instead to go with another Uro closer to me...maybe not a good decision? Sounds like you are pretty happy with him?

Not everyone is too happy with Dr. T in Vancouver at St. Pauls, don't want to bad mouth him but you should check him out first on the web sites where you can rate your Dr. wish I had.

          Search his name in posts.

I went to the UBC uro center, it was very nice I was treated very well by staff, but I would never go back to the uro Dr. T reffered me too who preformeda urodynamics test there.

She didn't know much about IC, kept ? if I was telling her the truth, when I did the urodynamics test she wanted to do she finally believed what I had been telling her.

My bladder dosen't contract so I have retention as well as IC neither of these Dr.'s could diagnose me because I had more than one problem going on Her suggestion was she give you botox in my bladder, when I questioned her about it she had no answers and admitted she had never actually done it, but had read about it, was sure with my bladder function I would need to have a cath for a month aftwards. Didn't know how it was going to help me.

So no I did not want to be a guinny pig so I ran from her, very fast.

If you want her name you can go back and look at old posts about Dr. T or PM me.

As far as the facility goes it is top notch, and I am sure they have uros there who do specilize in IC. Just not the one I saw.
