Can you imagine how great it would feel to walk into a room filled with others who understand exactly what you're going through?? Having IC is difficult at times... and doing it alone is unnecessary. Why recreate the wheel and try to figure this out on your own when there are dozens of independent IC groups around the country who are waiting to help you! IC Support Groups will help you learn more about IC, about resources in your area and, most of all, to make some great new friends! Don't suffer in silence at home, alone. If there is a group near you, call the group leader and introduce yourself!

Attn Group Leaders: We will NOT be posting specific meeting dates in this area because they change so frequently. You can post those directly into our Events Calendar in this forum. See the menu bar above. However, we will post your basic meeting schedule (monthly, quarterly). New group info, cancellations and special event info should be sent to me by PM.

There seems to be a real need in Massachusetts for support with this disease. Their function is to provide personal support and to provide information on the many different options available for IC treatment and self care. If you attend a group and hear information on a treatment that you would like to try, please research that treatment carefully and discuss it with your personal medical care provider. Only that doctor can and should give you medical advice.

South Central ILL IC Group location & date changes

    Howdy to everyone,

I would like to annouce the changes to the South Central Illinois IC Group, effective May 1st. Location has changed from Centralia, IL St Mary's Hospital to Mt Vernon, IL St Mary's Hospital. The dates have also changed. We are trying to get the second Thursday of even months (June, August, October, etc.). For the rest of the year our dates are as follows: June 12th, August 14th and October 16th. The December meeting will be a holiday meeting at a local restaurant. The time has stayed the same at 6:30 pm - 8:00pm. We will be using the Classroom number 2 with bathrooms close by. I have not been to this hospital yet in person, so when I know the area more I will post the information. The reason for these changes are trying to better suit the members with different meeting nights and closer location. If you have any questions, please contact me by e-mail at [email protected] or call and leave me a message at 618-925-4017. Thank you and keep your hopes up, Angie

      ATTN: Support group leaders!

If you run an IC support group (or even attend a support group meeting), you may at some point decide to make up a Welcome Kit (folder or binder) for new members. Aside from including IC info and printouts there, I also wanted to let you know that if you contact AZO, they will send you coupons for AZO Standard to include in the welcome kits. They even sent us free samples along with the coupons! We just went to their website and sent them and email letting them know what we were doing, and they sent us TONS of coupons/samples for our Welcome Packets!

Welcome packets can be as simple as a folder, or you can put it in a binder. Things that can be put in the welcome kit include (but arent limited to) the following:

      1) a link for this website

      2) names of IC knowledgable Drs in our area,

      3) printouts with info about IC (We also include a section in the binders on flare coping stratagies.)

      4) coupons and rebate info we printed off the internet for common IC meds (both Rx and OTC ) We also include the link to the website so they can look for others that they take. ( )

      5) a copy of the IC diet and several recipes,

      6) some OTC antacid samples, and Prelief samples, etc. (We got these from our Drs who still had some, b/c when we contacted Prelief, they said they dont have samples anymore, though they did send us a ton of coupons to include in the welcome packets. )

      7) brochures about IC including the one by Elmiron with the PUF questionairre. (You can get these from the Elmiron sales reps.)

      8) sample pages for keeping a voiding diary, pain diary, sleep diary, and to keep track of the IC Diet.

      9) List of recommended IC books (especially helpful if your group doesnt have a lending library for IC books.)

      10) Free calanders and fridge magnets from local pharmacies.

Remember, the more info you include, the better, since alot of members may be older or may not have internet access, so other than their Drs. office, this will be the only place many of them will get any IC information.

Oh! One more thing! If your group is sponserd by a Dr, try to have him/her put you in touch with several of the Pharmacuetical sales reps. Our Elmiron rep gave us LOTS of really nice brochures for the packets, that include the one with the PUF questionairre, and many more brochures that are great additons to the packets. (The PUF questionairres are helpful to have on hand for ICers to be able to take again after they have started treatment as a good way to gauge how well the meds/treatments are helpiing them.) Many reps may even offer seed money for when you are starting a support group. (We had several offers.) Some of them are also great sources for guest speakers (for example the Elmiron rep.) Our reps have even offered to cater a few meetiings with IC friendly foods! Some reps have also been known to bring/send some nice freebies like totes, pens, etc. (We never asked for ANYTHING but coupons, samples of OTC things made by their company, or for them to be a guest speaker if needed, (like the Elmiron rep). The rest are things they just offered, when we contacted them and told them what we were doing.)

Hope this will help someone out there who is just starting a group (or thinking of starting one), or someone who is interested in doing a Welcome packet for new members.
I am not a medical professional. I do not give medical advice. In all cases, I urge you to talk to your Dr. about your treatment options.

D/Xed 2003 with IC. Also have the co-existing condtions of VV, Vulvadynia, Lupus, Fibro, GERD, CPP, Endo, & Adhesions, and Depression

Meds: Estrogel (due to total Hyster)
The meds r/xed by my Pain Dr. from the Pain Clinic are as follows: Morphine ER and IR, Baclofen, and Lyrica and Seroquel (used off-label as a sleeping pill, but it also helps with depression)

(I listed my meds in case someone reading this has been told like so many ICers that Drs dont r/x pain meds for IC.) I want you to know that there ARE tons of us who are also dealing w/this disease and the pain and many of us ARE on pain meds.)

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
