  • IC Doctor in Alabama?

I am pleased to say that I got a new job! I am moving to Tuscaloosa next month, and am in need of a new IC doctor to take care of me.

Any recommendations? I checked on the dr finder on this site and found a urology group listed. Does that mean they are a good clinic to visit?

It means that the group has been recommended by another IC patient. It's not a guarantee that you'll like them, but there's a good possibility.

You might want to consider Dr. Alex Childs in Birmingham.

I am bumping this old thread. I am in the Birmingham area and would like to know more about Dr. Alex Childs. I currently see a Urologist at the same hospital as Dr. Childs. I haven't always been satisfied with the level of treatment I've received. I had cysto with distention on Monday and my Urologist told me to drink cranberry juice. I drank it yesterday morning and was MISERABLE for the rest of the day. I don't think his practice strives to learn more about IC and treatments available. I would love to have a doctor that I can talk to. Thanks.

My daughter sees Dr. Childs and we love him. He is a very caring doctor. He listens and takes his time on each visit. With that said, don't be surprised if you have to wait a while for your visit. He is also always booked - so if you are interested in getting an appt., call now! You can always cancel if you change your mind.

Also, you may want to visit Dr. Tracy Wilson (UAB urologist group). I live in Huntsville and could no longer make the trip to UAB. However, my urologist in Huntsville is fantastic.....Dr. Chapman.

I had to wait two months, but I have an appointment with Dr. Childs next week. My IC hasn't been too much of an issueas of late--although some cold meds I took last night are causing a crazy flare!

I am hoping Dr. Childs can help. I have a recurring ovarian cysts and endo along with my IC. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Let me know how it goes. My daughter has been suffering since Sept 2009. I keep reading about "flares". I guess she has been in a major flare since then. No relief. I wish you good luck!

Dr. Childs was super nice and very understanding. He took the time to really talk to me and seems to truly understand what I am going through. He said my pain was more than likely from endo, cysts, scar tissue, IC, pelvic floor dysfunction, and pelvic congestion--I'd never even HEARD of pelvic congestion before.

He scheduled me for a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and cystoscopy with hydrodistention on January 24th. Wish me luck; I'm hoping that I'll feel a thousand times better after surgery!

                              Bama Girl too

Hey ya'll! I'm from North Alabama. Diagnosed with IC and Adenomyosis.
I'm a patient of Dr. Alex Childs in B'ham. He has absolutely been my lifesaver.
Before him, I had been seen by four DRS. My case was complicated by the
Adenomyosis. I could not get any other DR to see that there was indeed a
connection between my menustral cycle and the increase in pain of ic. I
honestly believe the Good Lord led me to find Dr. Childs. He is amazing.
Compassionate, thorough, and up to date in IC treatments. He was also
understanding in my reluctance to try Elmirion and was okay with Cystoprotek instead. He truly put all the pieces of my puzzle together
