Acreynolds0801: I know the diet can seem overwhelming, but instead of looking at the list of things to avoid, concentrate on the bladder friendly items and look for favorites there. And --- when I was diagnosed back in 1975, I was my urologist's first IC patient. He researched and attended seminars to learn more about it and he treated my IC for thirty years until he retired.

Jess123: I hope you let that nurse know what cranberry juice can do to an IC bladder --- and that you mentioned this poor advice to the doctor.

I hope both of you are doing well.

    Warm hugs,
    Donna

I will probably go back to her Sinai don’t have to drive so far. I saw Dr Childs because I had other issues endometriosis adenomyosis pelvic congestion syndrome etc.

I did get bladder instills a long time ago at Kubik’s but they seem to make me worse from the trauma to urethra. I also feel like Kubik likes to prescribe just basic things like elmiron and amitriptyline not gabapentin etc. Her nurse also told me to drink cranberry juice which I thought was crazy. Kubik also didn’t evaluate me for pfd properly. She also corrected me harshly the first time I saw her for my pronunciation of Interstitial cystitis. So she has pros and cons like all of them I guess.

I don’t have to follow the diet scrictly with food but I only drink water. I use prelief when I eat. I have been seeing Dr Childs in Birmingham. He is a pelvic pain specialist. I am also on elmiron and it helps me. It took a while though. Also look into low dose naltrexone. It has been amazing.

Not to get too personal but does he use numbing medicine in his bladder instillations? My old dr (chakrabarty) did and it helped so much. Then I tried another doc who didn't have any numbing medicine in the treatment and it was unbearable!

    Hi Kat,
I live in Mathews,AL. It is 15 minutes outside of Montgomery,AL. I just wanted to say that I know exactly how it feels to be turned away by a Urologist. I actually went to a new Urologist and she walked into the exam room and scanned over my file. She basically threw me out. She said "I don't know what you want me to do?" "I can't help you." "I don't even know why you came to me." I walked out and just busted out into tears. She was so mean. I really hope you find a great Uro!!!
