  • Chicago and/or Suburbs

    Hi All,

I am recently diagnosed and looking for some help in Chicago. I am hoping to find a doctor that has knowledge in more alternative therapies that can help me manage supplements (alternative causes, diet, exercises, aloe, Cystoprotek, marshmallow tea, etc). If you know of anyone please let me know.

I would recommend Dr. Charles Lo, MD, a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor who has forsaken western medicine for Chinese medicine. He helped me tremendously.
He is located on Michigan Ave downtown. He is familiar in dealing with IC patients.

Thank you so much-- I will definitely look him up. Does he only do Chinese med or is he also knowledgeable about other treatments like aloe, marshmallow, etc? I tried the acupuncture route without any luck. Thanks again!

Read your post and that you are newly diagnosed.

        Hello Butterfly!
I have been struggling with this disease for 20 years now and wish to God that I had someone to talk to when I finally received a diagnosis 2 years ago. I am new to the Chicago Northwestern Suburbs and don't have a doctor here yet, but have found some things that have worked for me outside of traditional meds (and all those horrible side-effects). I would love to talk to you and listen through all the frustrations that come with a new diagnosis (I cried for days). Please feel free to email me at [email protected] I would welcome the opportunity to be there for you. Best of luck, I know it can be so very hard...but it isn't the end...you can learn to live with this and truly thrive!

Sorry I'm so late in responding!
Yes, Dr. Lo is knowledgeable about many other alternatives - herbal, etc. - even "tapping" which I'm going to explore myself!
Once again, sorry to be so late in answering your question!

              Hi there,

Just caught this post. You might also try to reach Barb Zarnikow, a support group leader in the greater Chicago area. She does a lot of work with IC patients. I actually spoke at her group in March! Nice group!

              Her email is: [email protected].

              Tell her I said hi.
