  • Dr. in Minnesota or North Dakota-Help?

Hi, I have had IC since October 2005 and have gotten myself pretty under control by diet, meds, and some natural remedies. Anyway, I live in a small town called Fergus Falls, Mn it's about three hours drive to St. Paul (Twin Cities). And also close (about an hour) to Fargo ND. My local urologist and obgyn have been sort of piecing together my care and they both admit to having little knowledge and expertise in IC. They have both recommended I try and find someone that is an expert. It is frustrating to try and coordinate my meds and refills and I feel like I am more my doctor than anyone. I did see a specialist in Urology at the U of M in St. Paul in December and he was such a let down, he basically told me I had pelvic problems, many women have pelvic problems and they don't know why. He said take a vacation, no one complaines of pelvic pain while on vacation. He also told me the diet doesn't matter. So as you can see he the supposed specialist he is not. I would really love if someone from MN or ND knows or has a really good doctor that they could recommend to me. I am willing to drive I just want someone to be able to know more than I do about this disease. I am going to try and get on the waiting list for the Mayo Clinic, but I heard it's like two years?! Please anyone that has any info would be great! Thank you Dessica

I grew up near Mankato. I have not seen Dr. Presthus and Dr. Beadle in the Twin Cities personally, but have heard wonderful things about them. Also, Dr. Kirkemo in the Twin Cities is suppose to be great. I'm sorry I don't have their phone numbers. I think Dr. Presthus and Beadle are at "Minnesota Gynecology" and Dr. Kirkemo is at "Metro Urologic". God bless! Let me know how things go. I may see one of these drs. myself on a visit up there to see family.

To find doctors information just go to mmaonline.net this is what I use at work! It's great. I work at a great pain clinic in the Twin Cities but that is a bit of a drive for you.

U of M Jer-- I mean, uh, 'Doctor'

Dessica, I am curious who you saw at U of M--I was referred up there by my GYN at Mankato Clinic--I saw a urologist that just completely dumped on me and said IC was basically made up, all in our heads, and any supposed treatments for it were voodoo. He did a cystoscopy on me without anesthesia or numbing agent. He was the biggest jerk!!

Wow...so sorry that your doc was such a neanderthal! I told another poster that all Uro's are NOT created equal, clearly not the one at U of M that treated you like that. I'd rather deal with one that has no clue than one that thinks it's a psychosomatic symptom! I would've told him to tell that to my bladder!

I was recently diagnosed at SMDCurology dept (Saint Mry's Duluth Clinic) in Duluth. The DR knew right away what I had. I have not received much eduacation tho but have cruied the network. I had a hunnar's ulcer ablated and distension and have had some relief. I will have a follow up in a few weeks.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Steven Siegel from Metro Urology. He travels to different locations around the Cities ( such as Woodbury, St.Paul, etc.). I had went to Mayo 4 years ago when my problems started and they were not any help at all after I had seen 6 different doctors. I finally found Dr. Siegel and he really knows alot about IC and is very wonderful to work with. I hope this helps you. Good Luck!

                              Hi Dessica
I see this is an old thread, I'm wondering how you are doing and if you found a Dr close by. I have not been diagnosed yet but am quite sure I have IC, I am doctoring in Fargo. I did a search for IC Dr's and came up with Dr Michael Norgard in Fergus Falls. Have you ever seen him?
Hope you're doing well. Thanks for any help you can give me.
