• looking for a gastro

I'm looking for a gastro Dr, and i'm not having any luck here I live in Woonsocket, RI, but i'm very close to the Mass border also. I tried calling a gastro in Mass this morning that I had seen awhile back, and I can't get into see him until July 18th. I'm not familair with any gastro dr's in immediate area. I'm having severe pain in my right side, and my tummy is growing larger by the day something is NOT right, and I hurt. I'm waiting for my family dr to call me back, as he won't see me, and has to return my phone call because it is an abdominal problem still haven't heard from him, and I called his office first thing this morning. I know there are some members here that live in RI/MASS area....is there anybody that has a good gastro dr they could refer me to?
Thanks So Much
Pam

Hi Pam:

I'm from Rhode Island also. Have I got the guy for you. His name is Robert Kelliher and he is located in Walpole, MA (less than half an hour from you). He is one of the most compassionate, and gentlest doctors I've ever dealt with; he's also top-notch and very knowledgeable. When I was at my worst with gastro symptoms, this man not only listened to me, but helped me also. I cannot recommend him enough. His number is:
(508) 668-4555

Hi,

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), 330 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA, has a great gastro dept. The main # for the hospital is 617-667-7000, ask them to connect you to the gastro division. My primary GI doc is C. Cheney. She has offices at BIDMC and in Lexington, MA. However, she's currently away until June 25th.

To be seen by a gastro at BIDMC sooner you may set-up an appt with a gastro fellow or senior gastro resident (I've found them all to be quite knowledgeable and helpful). I'm currently battling gastroparesis and have been hospitalized for that many times in the last 8 months (most recently this week), so I think I've met and been treated by most of the GI staff at BIDMC at one time or another.

If the pain is really bad and you reach the point where you can't wait until your appt date you could go to the BIDMC ER. I know ER trips suck, but someone from the gastro service can come done to the the ER and evaluate you there too.

I hope you feel better soon Let me know if you need direct dial #'s to gastro docs. I'd be happy to gather them up for you.

Mary

MARY, THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING ALSO! I did find a gastro dr closer to home, went to my appt regarding alternating IBS, but I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy this wed morning at 11am
I also have been waking up during the night with a pain in my right side, and the gastro checked it, had me cough, and he suspects a hernia? I went and had a CT scan tues night at the hospital..waiting the results of that. There is nothing left in there, as I have had a complete hysto.appendix is gone, gallbladder is gone, so, something is growing anyways, thanks for posting, we all need help here, and I thank all the ICN members for making this board possible for us
hugs to all
