  • Ready for the Snow Mon & Tues?

I was just looking at the forcast. Looks like we may get 6-8 inches Monday and Tuesday.

I live 40 minutes from where I work, and I work from 5pm-1am. Plus I work in the trucking industry (we deliver produce all over the midwest). So we will have our fair weather drivers not wanting to work, and everyone else will be screening their calls so they dont have to work. No one likes to drive in the snow unless they have to. So that means a busy and intersting night for me tomorrow.

They are saying there is going to be wind with this storm. I dont mind driving in the snow, but it does no good if you cant see where you are going. Its all country driving from my house Champaign.

I may have to go in early in order to make it in, then might have to stay at my brothers or a hotel if the weather gets worse. Luckily my brother lives less than a mile from where I work:woohoo:

Does anyone else have this issue? Where you have to plan for even just the slight bit of bad weather cause you have to drive far to work? A 30-40 minute commute isnt unusual around here. We've just learned to have backup plans. The only thing that would make this snow fun is some hills. Sucks living in the flatlands! No sledding!

I made it home from work. Roads were awful! I was crossing a bridge with a semi coming at me and a deer jumps out and scares the crap out of me! Deer was lucky cause semi drivers are taught not to slow down for deer. They can do more damage if they try to swerve to miss the deer.

Champaign already had an inch or more when I left at midnight. It had started snowing at about 1030. Gibson has just a trace..for now. Now that Im home and dont have to work till Wed, I hope we get a foot. That way my honey and I can stay in and have a nice cozy day together.

Ill update in the morning. Im kinda curious as to how much snow we will get with this system.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy here, too. My area has actually been categorized as blizzard. I think we have about eight inches so far and it's still coming down like the dickens and blowing like 30 and 40 mph. My hubby is working from home today. I always work from home, so I don't get snow days! Right now, I am teaching a couple of classes at our local university. Classes were actually canceled today. That's never happened. I think maybe they were canceled for the blizzard of 1978, but not since. Too crazy.

Good thing I went to the grocery store over the weekend. Now I just hope we don't lose power. We had an ice storm two years ago and were without power for a week. SOuth of us is getting some ice, but I think we're just going to end up with like 14 inches of snow on top of the three or so that was down to begin with.

                Winter has most definitely arrived.

I just talked to my mom who lives an hour south of me. She said that they have called the snow plows in cause its not safe for them. The wind is really blowing here! We are under a blizzard warning. Im so glad I dont have to work today. Its hard to tell how much snow we have gotten. The wind has blown everthing around so much even here in town.

I say if its going to snow..give me a foot or two! I dont think Ive ever seen this much snow.

I hear the tea kettle..sounds like my sweetie is makin me something hot to drink...mmm!

We've received about 6 inches of snow so far (more just a few miles north of us). Now we are getting freezing rain and sleet and everything is covered with a 1/2 - 1 inch layer of ice and the ice is continuing to accumulate. The freezing rain/sleet mix is going to continue until later tonight when it will change back to snow. This isn't supposed to end until tomorrow for us. It's absolutely miserable. Everything is closed......even universities, some shopping areas and the Air Force Base. We're in for the duration. We filled our propane tanks for the gas grill in case we lose power and have no other way to cook. So far we are hanging on, but have a way to go before we are out of the woods. I hate this stuff!!! How I wish we were in Florida right now!!!

Yeah, we're in for the duration, too. I don't think it's supposed to stop here until later tonight. It's still snowing like made. It's blowing so hard, which makes it worse. Right now it's drifted above the window sill in some places. I'm guessing my hubby will be home again tomorrow. I'm getting ready to e-mail my university students and tell them our class is canceled tomorrow even if the university isn't. I think we're getting close to the 14-inch mark and it's not letting up at all.

So sorry for those of you getting ice. We're right on the line. We had a horrible ice storm two years ago. It's miserable. We've gotten some sleet, but mostly just snow. Here's hoping no one loses electricity!

We are getting a lot of snow and wind up here in the south Chicago suburbs. I am looking out the window and the snow is actually being blown sideways by the wind.

The great thing about it is that I work in a school district, and this morning at around 5:45 am I got a call that school was canceled. :woohoo: Snow day! Too bad I was already in the shower getting ready for work, so it was hard to crawl back in bed, but I'm not complaining because I got to take a long hot shower and put on my cozy robe and watch the snowfall from the comfort of home.

I'm in the Cleveland area and we're getting hammered! It's snowed at least 2 inches since I got home, and it's supposed to continue through the night. They're talking a foot in some areas, on top of about 6 inches already on the ground. I have a real dilemma about work tomorrow - I run a computer testing center, and I have about 25 people coming in tomorrow. Some of them are taking tests that cannot be rescheduled without a great deal of disruption (for them as well as for me!), so I want to get there at my regular time. I could open a bit later, but it's going to be a 10-hour day, and I don't want to be stuck there until 9pm. This would be a great time to be retired!

                            I survived!

We got 10 inches here in my little town. A foot or so just south of us. The snow was coming down sideways most of Tuesday. There is a 5 foot drift just off to the side of the driveway. Most of the snow in the driveway was up to my knees. We dont get snow like this very often so we dont have a snowblower. Sure couldve used it today!

I took a few pics of the storm from inside the house. Most were taken yesterday during the storm. Check out my photobucket site. The pics were all taken from my cell phone.

Off to take a nap. Gotta work 12 hours tonight!

So we survived and finally were able to get out yesterday. We have snow drifts up to our window sills and beyond. Some halfway up our six-foot privacy fence as well. Remarkable since we're in the city.

I just heard this morning that it's going to snow again tonight starting around midnight. We could get up to three more inches. Good grief! My dog is at least thrilled. He's 18 pounds of fur and loves taking on the big snow drifts!
