Couple of things written by Melody Beattie in "The Language of Letting Go":

    LETTING GO OF CONFUSION

Sometimes, the way is not clear.

Our minds get clouded, confused. We aren't certain what our next step should be, what it will look like, what direction we are headed.

That is the time to stop, ask for guidance, and rest. That is the time to let go of fear. Wait. Feel the confusion and chaos, then let it go. The path will show itself. The next step shall be revealed. We don't have to know now. We will know in time. Trust that. Let go and trust.

Today, I will wait if the way is not clear. I will trust that out of the chaos will come clarity.

    PERSPECTIVE

Too often, we try to gain a clear perspective before it is time.

    That will make us crazy.

We do not always know why things are happening the way they are. We do not always know how a particular relationship will work out. We do not always understand the source of our feelings, why we've been led down a particular path, what is being worked out in us, what we are learning, why we needed to recycle, why we had to wait, why we needed to go through a time of discipline, or why a door closed. How our present circumstances will work into the greater scheme of events is not always clear to us. That is how it needs to be.

    Perspective will come in retrospect.

We could strain for hours today for the meaning of something that may come in an instant next year.

Let it go. We can let go of our need to figure things out, to feel in control.

Now is the time to be. To feel. To go through it. To allow things to happen. To learn. To let whatever is being worked outin us take its course.

In hindsight, we will know. It will become clear. For today, being is enough. We have been told that all things shall work out for good in our life. We can trust that to happen, even if we cannot see the place today's today's events will hold in the larger picture.

Today, I will let things happen without trying to figure everything out. If clarity is not available to me today, I will trust it to come later, in retrospect. I will put simple trust in the truth that all is well, events are unfolding as they should, and all will work out for good in my life - better than I can imagine.

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

And remember, the drink or drug is cunning - it may try to convince you it will provide relief - but that's a lie. Remember that - the disease wants to kill you; wants to see you even more miserable and uses bad times to trick you into believing it will help you.

Kim~did you ever meet her? I had a chance to when I was just a few months sober. At the time, her thery was 3 years and out. She said after 3 years you should be ready for the big world. I had to change to the AA program because I needed way more than the 3 years she talked about~

No, I have never met her, but would love to. I am very surprised that her theory was 3 years and out. I certainly couldn't do that. She talks so much about meetings in her literature, but I do know a couple of people who go to Codependents Anonymous after several years in AA. (Or is she talking 3 years in CODA and then out?) I love my AA so I wouldn't stop going anyway, but that is interesting.

She must just give off really good energy. Her book The Language of Letting Go is soooooooooooo good and has saved my sanity many a day. I just flip back to the index and find a topic and start reading.

Kim~I was helped so much more in AA than I was in the other program......at the end of each meeting, ending with holding hands in a circle saying "I am a caring competent woman" just drove me nutzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I was hanging on by my finger nails and saying those words angered me so much. As for her books.......I don't think I could have found the courage without them to take the next step and gotten into AA and I will forever be grateful to her~

I went to a few CODA meetings prior to getting sober. I knew I needed help of some sort and was drawn to the 12 step format. So, they kind of helped me until I was ready to admit to myself what was really going on. In the end I was much more at home in AA.

                    Katherine,
I love the "CHICKEN SOUP" books, especially Chicken Soup For The Christian Soul, they have some of the most beautiful, and wonderful stories in them. I have NEVER read a bad one, there are lots of different titles out there.
Try one, and see how you like it.
                    God Bless You
