    How Many?

    My husband was out of town this week, and while he was gone, the light bulb in the lamp over my side of the bed blew out. I solved this problem by moving over to the other side of the bed for the duration. When Jack got up the morning after he returned home, I said, "Honey, that bulb is out." He just looked at me for a long moment, then turned on his heel, headed for the basement where we keep the spare lightbulbs. As he left, I just barely heard him muttering, "How many IC patients does it take to change a lightbulb..."

    If he answered his own question, I didn't hear it, so I thought I'd pose it here. How many IC'ers does it take to change a lightbulb. Anyone want to give it a go?

    That's funny Carolyn, I guess it would depend on how high up the light is and how tall the IC patients are so we can figure out how many of us are going to have to climb on top of each other to reach the stupid thing

    I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
    1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
    2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
    I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

    I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

    Proud wifey of Shane, mommy to Griffin, and step-mom to Logan and Gage
    Also proud mom to the best Bullmastiff on earth, Claus

      Ok, you can start those computations ... I just have to run to the bathroom for a sec ... be right back!

        LOL Carolyn, I think I could spend all day crunching those numbers! Instead I get to run around like a chicken with my head cut off to get ready for my brother and sister in law who will be here in about 2 hours and my house is a mess!!! I have yet to shower, we still have to go to the farmers market to get veggies and hubby has to make chicken salad for lunch, oh yea and I have to put away the groceries that I just bought at the store, so I think I'll let you do those computations! lol

          light bulbs are the easy thing to change, especially if you can reach them without standing on a chair.... note.. I have swivel chairs, therefore its a very bad idea to stand on them unless you have someone there to turn you while you hold the bulb while taking it out, then turn you the other way to screw the new one in

          I bought them lights that look like a spiral BOUT 4 OR 5 YEARS AGO, THEY STILL HAVE NOT NEEDED CHANGED oops hit caps lock.. too lazy to retype it

              Well, see, Donna, that's what I think, that's why I left it for him to do. Wouldn't want to step into his perogative, you know? And yet he really didn't seem to appreciate my consideration for him in this matter. Men -- go figure.

                LOL Carolyn, I must admit I consider changing lightbulbs mens work when the lightbulb is too high for me to reach. I'm only 5'4" so if I try to change the one in the bathroom I have to balance on the side of the tub and almost kill myself. If it's one that I can reach I will do it myself. Hubby doesn't usually do them though, 17 year old step-son Logan does, he's so nice to do that stuff for me

                  my niece calls me the man of the house because I do everything.. to include fix the car if I know what to do, and then I will find out how if I don't.
                  I guess thats why Leslie and I are best friends cuz we both jump in and do what needs to be done, if we wait for the man.. well we would still be waiting...

                  one time she told me about cleaning the tub with oxy.. wwoo hooo let me tell you.. you just have to do it to see...

                    Now, see, Christine, that's an advantage of boys over girls -- they are taller! My daughter would probably help but she's still three inches shorter than me (I'm the same height as you). I would have changed the bulb, anyway, but Jack insists on storing them in this really high shelf in the basement. And the bedroom is on the fifth floor. All those stairs hurt my ankles and knees (whine, whine...)

                    Jack is great for 3/4 of every month, he'll do the cooking, shopping, laundry, any home or car repairs, lawn care, child care, pet care, bill-paying, even ironing; and he got us a cleaning lady for the rest. But on the fourth week, he's 3,000 miles away. Fortunately I've been feeling better the last few weeks, and can manage ok without him here. I know how to do all those things (ok, not car repairs -- I just use the other car until he gets back), so now his traveling isn't much of a problem.

                    But that lightbulb, well, that was just asking too much, LOL.

                      Depending on where the bulb burnt out at and how tall the person is! If its at the nightstand then I can change it; however, if its the ceiling, then I call my son, as he is taller then anyone in the family, sometimes I'll change it just depends how desperately I want to see!
