  • Phone call from SS

Can you guys give me some help..? I received a phone call this morning from SSI telling me they want to do their own psychological screening on me,,,,plus, want the PT to send a report of my range of motion, gait, etc....Is that normal? Have any of you with social security been through that? is that good news or bad? What are they going to ask me at their psychological review? AAAAAHHH....I am seeing a counselor, who filled out a report, why do they need to see me?

    Thanks

yes ssi can send you to a psychologist of there chosing. I had to go to one myself. Also, they do want all types of medical reports submitted. I have never had a phone call from ssi/ssd I have always been notified thru mail.

yes, it's totally normal. I've been seeing the same shrink since 1989 and they still made me go to their's. Mine had already deemed me 100% disabled because of on going depression and I still had to see theirs'.....if you are already seeing someone just tell the person SS sends you to......AND, make sure that you send reports from the therapist you are seeing to SS, don't rely on the dr to do it on his/her own~

              Makin_it,

This is very typical of Social Security, I have not filed for my IC but have done all the paper work for my husbands disability.
They always inundate you with torturous amounts of paperwork, in trying to persuade you that the process is to difficult and in my opinion to have those who cannot jump the hoop to give up entirely. Social Security is an operation that is finely tuned and the hoops you will jump through will be like those you see at the circus, with FIRE, they will try to discourage you but keep up a valient effort this can happen.
My hubby had to see a Social Security Doctor, he checked for range of motion, what activities he was limited to etc. A few weeks later he had to have a psychological eval, and then yet another total workup by another Doctor who soley worked with Social Security to weed out those cases that are or are not deserving of this money. He did a total work up, it took three different office visits, consisted of physical therapy evals, psuch evals, and he had to register every complaint he had. It was a full time job! We also had to fill out forms to be sent to his various Doctors that he had been seeing for long term and acute care.
The road to getting Social Security is sometimes haphazord and grueling, do all that they ask and do it in it's afforded manor of time.
Each and every year we get papers that I fill out as to how he is still eligable for his Social Security benifits. The pages they send me usually are included in a package that consists of 10 pages of info that I must fill out. About two weeks after I send those papers in, I get another 4 or 5 pages more to fill out!
I get pretty furious and have to have a lot of alone time to get it completed, some questions are so irrelivent and some are so lenghty and repetative it is insane. This I can tell you, if you can get awarded this you will be much better off. BIG BIG ADVISE:COPY EVERYTHING YOU WRITE OUT & SEND THEM, I HAVE HAD THINGS LOST INSIDE THEIR OFFICES AND NOT FOUND FOR MONTHS , ONE INCIDENT NEVER DID SHOW UP AND I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER!! PLUS IT WILL MAKE IT EASIER WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR FOLLOW UP IN TWO YEARS, YOU CAN SIMPLY JUST COPY DOWN EVERYTHING FROM THE PREVIOUSE ENTRIES PLUS ANY NEW COMPLAINTS IF APPLICABLE , YOU WILL SAVE A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT IF EVERYTHING YOU GIVE THEM YOU COPY AND KEEP IN A SAFE FILE FOR YOUR REFRENCE. The money is really a God send and to all those who are thinking about voting, think about voting for those who do not want to borrow from Social Security, vote for the ones wanting to implement a plan to recover the monies they have been stolen out of it for other programs and become conciouse of what is going on in the Social Security arena. We may all someday have to rely on it and it is a great program when not abused.
              Much luck to your process!
              You can do it!!
Keep smiling and keep the faith!

              Much love and concern,
              Jessica Day
