  • Cancer, Wedding Showers and PAIN!

    Hi Everyone!

I've been working on a quilt for my sister for her upcoming Wedding Shower in two weeks. We started it on Wednesday of last week. My Mother in Law is helping because I could NEVER accomplish this alone. (She just had a hip replacement) so we are both in rough shape. I'm also making one of these for my '"best friend" who has her wedding i4 days before my Sister's. It's been literally all of the blood, sweat, and tears I own in this body. I really wanted to do something nice for her that she would always remember. This is NOT my thing! It's utterly impossible to think while being so debilitated with pain. I've been battling some major infection on top of the pain I am normally in. Because my Mom is so sick with Cancer, I wanted to give my Sister something real special because she isn't getting any attention and this is after all her special day. Even though things are sad around here, I want to try to make her Wedding as positive as I can. But I need an outlet while I do this... We are taking some photos along our way. When it's finished I will take a better photo of it but for now this is all I have. As soon as we are done with it I will get the whole thing front and back. (I apologize to the "real" quilters out there) I am not good at this and have never done this before, so we had to make it a simple design.

This is a photo of us putting the some 300 pins in tonight in order to get ready to start quilting tomorrow. You can click on it to get a larger view.

This is us rolling it up for the night. You can sort of see part of the back.

Since I share EVERYTHING with you all, I wanted to share this too!

Finished Piece Coming in about a week......

    Kara

It's beautiful, Kara, and trust me, she will definitely appreciate it. When my daughter was born, one of her great-aunts made her a baby-size quilt, and we all treasure it. Now that my daughter is twelve, she has put the quilt away carefully so she will have it when her own first child comes along (not for another 20 years if I have any say in the matter!).

You're doing a wonderful thing, but you always take too much on yourself. I wish you could spend more time resting, and of course I am always thinking of you and hoping for a resolution to your pain.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

    Peace, Carolyn

              Kara:
This is just beautiful. Between the 3 of you ladies, your pain, your Mothers cancer and MIL hip replacement.

I'm not much when it comes to be creative, in fact, when my Grandmother was alive, she tried to teach me to knit, needless to say it was a disaster!
A handful of years ago (maybe 10?) I tried to knit a baby blanket-- it took me forever- finally did it, but someone had to help me by almost ripping it all out and starting over from the beginning. From that moment on, I decided that I was just going to buy things at the store!!
