  • Fell down the stairs and hurting all over

I didnt know where to put this, since it isnt really IC related, (at least not yet!), but I just need to whine a bit. I have had a pretty rough few weeks. Collin was out of school all last week sick with a double ear infection, upper respiriatory infection and pink eye. (He also missed a few days the week before with pink eye. Then it came back and had the other things too.) My husband left town again and just got back today. He has been on business trips 3 times in the last 6 weeeks. When he is gone, it places alot of extra work on me looking after the farm animals, plus, with Collin home all last week, and no break from him, I am just pretty run down right now.

I caught the pink eye from him and for the last few days, my throat feels really swollen and hurts. I also am running a slight fever. I am on Penniclillin VK and r/x eye drops, but I just started the Penn VK today.

If all that werent enough, 2 weeks ago, the laptop tore up. My husband works on computers for a living and took it to work to look at it. Apparently, Collin spilled a soda on it unkbeknowanst to me. My husband went off when he saw it inside of it, and tried to fix it but it was no use. Now I have no laptop. We have another computer (a dinosaur) that is in the bonus room upstairs. I have been having to come up here to use this one, and it hurts me to sit for very long. That's why I havent been on much (and wont be on as much or able to post as much) from now on. I know this probobly sounds petty to most of you, but for me, it is a huge blow, since I am in bed most of every day, and going online to post to people was one thing I could still do to feel useful...like the IC didnt take that away from me. Now, I feel robbed of that. I just cant sit (or be in any postion for very long) b/c of the pain. I dont post how bad I am very often b/c I know there are plenty here worse than me and talking about it doesnt change anything anyway. But, with the laptop, I could at least feel normal while I was online. Now, I cant even do that. Money is too tight to replace the laptop right now. There are so many other things we need worse and to be honest, he thought I spent to much time on their anyway, (which is probobly the real reason he wont consider getting a new one.)

To top it all, when I logged off earlier tonite, and started downstairs, I fell down about 8 of the steps. Luckily, I didnt break any bones, but I took the skin off my forearm on one side, twisted my back and ankle, bruised my back, shoulders, arms, legs, and I cant move 3 of the toes on one foot. They are swelled up to 3 times their size and it hurts to walk or move. (I couldnt sleep either b/c every time I'd finally find a postion that didnt kill me, I'd move out of it during my sleep, and the pain would just sear thru my body and jolt me back awake.

Thanks for listening and coming to my pity party.

    Amy

Oh Amy! I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Falling down the stairs, ouch! It sounds like you may have broken some of your toes, you should probably go to the doctor or ER for that, I know that they can't do anything but tape them but still.
I am so sorry that your hubby got you that book. Men sometimes, I swear. My hubby is so worried about my health but yet he is always bringing up the sex issue. Don't they realize that we wish we were normal much more than they do. Ugh! I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure you have plenty of people to talk to here but if you need another one always feel free to PM me!

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I wish I could help --- I do agree that it's a good idea to move that computer to where it's easier to get to. Mine sits in a corner of the living room --- not the best place in the world for a computer desk, but it works.

                Hi Amy,
Om my gosh, I am soooo sorry you are in so much pain. Uggggh, pink eye, I remember those days. My son when he was little use to bring it home to me also. That is no fun waking up with your eyes glued shut.
Also, I am sorry about your fall down the stairs and your computer incident. I hope you feel better. Are your toes broke? I hope not. Last year I fell on top of our pet gate that we use to keep our dog in the living room and I landed right on the gate on top of my stomach. I was soo sick for weeks with severe nausea, and pain. I even had to have an ultrasound as my GI doc thought I may have injured something, but thank God I didn't. It is going to take time for your muscle aches to go away after that fall. Are you able to take anything for the pain?

I will keep praying that you feel better soon Amy. When I read about your Collin spilling soda on the computer, it brought back memories. When my son was about 4 years old, he stuck a cookie inside out DVD palyer. That was fun trying to get that out, which we never could. My dad had to take it all apart to get the cookie out. So I know all about that.

Hope you feel better. Sending you Big )))gentle(((( hugs.

                  Dear Amy,

I'm so sorry to hear that things are so upsetting right now. You are always in my heart and prayers. I hope that in time, you will be able to get another laptop. I'm glad we got to speak the other night. It was wonderful to hear your voice. You are loved and missed. I hope you are feeling better soon!

                  Love,

*Diagnosed with severe IC in 2004
*Also diagnosed with PFD, fibromyalgia, chronic myofascial pain, IBS, migraines, allergies/asthma, dermatographism
*Kept trying a million different treatments for all these things until I found what works, and I am doing okay these days with the help of a cocktail of medications and the InterStim, which was first placed in 2007. [I have had 2 revisions - one in 2010 when my battery died and had to be replaced, and one complete replacement (lead and generator) in 2012 after a fall on my stairs caused my lead to move.]

Yikes, Amy, I would definitely have your husband move the computer downstairs! I've also had some close calls on my stairs lately, since I've been in this flare and the change of meds, I've been living downstairs mostly, sleeping on the couch and in the guest bedroom so I don't have to do the stairs, they're so steep and hardwood and I live alone, who knows when they'd find me if I fell and hurt myself! Sometimes I feel like I should get one of those emergency things to wear around my neck in case I fall and I can't get up I hope you're not seriously injured! I know you don't want to go to the dr, but if your pain and swelling continues, it would be a good idea, I'm sure you know this already. Keep us posted if you can. I'm gonna call you to get an update in case you can't get to the computer.

I wish you would at least go get checked out especially with your back and since your toes are swollen. I broke my foot last December going up the stairs. I didn't think it was broken at first, but it started swelling up and turning blue right away. I don't remember hitting it that hard. I just remember my shoe (they were slip on) came off.

I hope you and your son feel better soon!

Oh Amy, I really hope you feel better soon. You sound like me though when it comes to stairs - it is why we didn't buy a two story house. I not only fall going down them but I also fall going up them!

I would certainly move the computer downstairs. I am so clumbsy on my meds. Since I take the meds mostly at night, I have to be careful when I am roaming the house. I always hit the bathroom counter and have a constant bruise on my thighs.
