I am not sure whether it was one or not, but it was sure scary. I was relaxing watching TV when all of a sudden I noticed my heart racing. I felt short of breath and my chest was tight. I thought, OK. if this is an anxiety attack you need to try to relax. Boy! Is that hard when your heart is racing!!
I used my pulse oxymeter that I use for my asthma that measures your pulse rate and your oxygen level. Just sitting doing nothing it was 120. My oxygen level was fine. I took my blood pressure and it was kind of on the high side for me 152/98. I usually have low blood pressure.
So, I sat there for awhile to try and calm myself down. In the mean time, I could not figure out why this was happening to me.I was not stressed over anything whatsoever.
I finally called the medics just to have them check me out. They had a hard time geting a BP on me, so they used the one connected to the heart monitor. At that time, my blood pressure was still high. I was not sure whether to take something for the anxiety like ativan or to just have them take me to the ER. Well, I decided to have them take me to the ER. He hooked me up to the heart monitor, the pulse ox and hooked me up to the oxygen. He also did an IV just in case.
They did an EKG at the ER and monitored me for awhile. I seemed to calm down a bit. We decided to have some Ativan put in my IV.
I went home after that, but it sure scared me! I have had these type of episodes before. I have not had one for awhile, because I take medication for it. Most of the time there is nothing that brings on the episode. I am usually just sitting down relaxing doing nothing.
