  • Talking about marriage, ? about insurance

So...Tom and I have been talking a lot lately about finally tying the knot...the problem is is that I haven't officially divorced my ex yet because I am covered on his family insurance policy. He has been nice enough to keep me on his family policy until we do get divorced and Tom and I get married.

I've been thinking a lot about pre-existing conditions, etc. Anyone out there have Blue Cross and Blue Shield? That's the insurance Tom has and I'm terrified to lose my United Healthcare coverage. I also have Medicare from my SSDI that takes care of all my copays, and extra things that United Healthcare doesn't cover.

Any suggestions to get the ball rolling? I'm really ready to marry this guy, and I know he's ready since he bought me a ring for Christmas a year and a half ago! I think it's time!

Who wants to come to the wedding?
    *IC-- Summer 2004; PFD--October 2005
    *Fibro--Fall 2000; CFS-- Fall 2000
    *MPS--Fall 2000; Crohn's disease-- 1997*IBS,GERD, *Migraines, hypothyroidism, GYN problems *Degenerative Disc Disease/scoliosis

    Total Abdominal Hysterectomy--adenomyosis--9\08

04/17/09 Crohn's disease almost killed me with a combo of extreme constipation from pain medications. My bowel ruptured, I almost died from peritonitis and spent several days in the ICU then more in a private room on the floor. If you have any questions about severe constipation from pain meds please don't hesitate to send me a message.

    Sandy,
I have blue cross blue shield and so does Dom well as soon as I am officilly terminated from work then I will loose my insurance, We called and discuused this with them and they said as long as Dom got me on his within 30 days after mine was cancelled and did not let the coverage laps that any conditions I had would be covered, so just make sure that you do not let it laps in other words as soon as your ex drops you and you are married make sure you do not have a waiting period before the other policy goes into effect and you will be fine.. Hope this helps

most group policies with companies don't subject spouses when marrying with pre exisisting conditions. Ususally private policies are the ones that are bad at that. You may want to go one line and read about the bc/bs for your state ans see what you find out.

Don't know when, where or what time! LOL This is in the planning stages, and while I doubt that we'd have a huge wedding, I know we do want our friends to be there, even if it's just in front of a judge or something there's sure to be a party afterward...a somewhat IC friendly party!

Thanks to both of you for the info. I am relieved to hear about that pre-existing condition thing. I've been so worried that most of my medical problems wouldn't be covered. I just can't imagine what I would do without proper insurance coverage! We'd never have food in the pantry again!

            insurance

            Sandy,

my mother has the blue cross insurance and she chose to keep it on an individual policy instead of taking medicare. I am almost sure there is a 30 day period you will still be covered to decide if you want to keep on the blue cross. Also most companies with group doesn't consider pre-existing conditions if your husband to be has a group policy where he works. He can probably put you on it, plus I believe there is a law that you will be covered for 30 days even after your ex. drops you. Besides be happy, stay happy ane good luck with your new found love. God will take care of you with only Medicare. That is all I have. Wish I had a supplement but I make it. You can probably go online to the blue cross and find out. I am so happy for you. My mother said she does better staying with her blue cross than taking out Medicare and believe she is tight and goes thru everything with a fine tooth comb.

God bless in your new marriage and life.

            J.J.

Sandy, I would check but usually if you drop one insurance and pick up another one w/in a certain # of days you're okay. I have a group plan through my job and they tried to hit us all with pre-exsisting conditions when I joined after starting my job. Just because it's group doesn't mean they don't do pre-exsisting conditions. None of us had any pre-exsisting conditions because we hadn't been treated for them in so long and the kids had insurance the whole time. Congrats on getting married and hope everything works out.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Also proud mom to the best Bullmastiff on earth, Claus
