  • Oh no, Snow!

    Okay,
Whoever lives in the Northern Va, area and asked for snow, sure wish you hadn't!
This is not fun! Would be except my back is out and I can hardly walk let alone shovel, so DH is going to have to do it, plus walk our little dog. Unfortunately, DH also has a bad back, and not such a great heart.
I think I am going to have to recruit neighbors, though I hate to ask for favors.
    I HATE winter!
Okay, I'm done now! Just had to vent!

Find a kid in the neighborhood and (I don't know what the going rate for shoveling/dog walking is) give him some $ and he'll be at your door tomorrow wanting to know if you need help.
Also, if you have any friends with teenagers ask them to ask their kids! I've got 2 college aged ones and they love to make a little $!!!

Good luck and tell the dog to just hold it!!

Here in No VA we got lucky. No ice storm like they thought. We just got rain. It was heavy during the night, but the temps were above 32 so it was fine. Ice is worse than snow. The Fed Gov though for 2nd day in a row had unscheduled leave, but I still came in. I honestly can't wait till spring. But I hate spring and summer because of the bugs and snakes. We have had several sightings of snakes since last year. We have lived in the same house since 1996 and I never saw them in the past. Dad puts the snake away around the home. Time to get some in March when the weather gets warmer. When spring and summers comes I want fall and winter and the cold. ARGH! What area in the US gets cold winters and cold falls, but cool springs and summers? I'm sure Maine would be great place to live during the spring and summer. But way too cold in the winters.

          Oh No!!! ICE!!!

We have about 1 1/2" of ice on the roads here north of Dallas. And of COURSE, all the "ice melt", salt and sand are going on the roads to and from Texas stadium for Superbowl parties. Meanwhile, out here in the boonies we're stuck. For us it's going to be really cold tonight, low of 9, so that ice isn't going anywhere, fast!!!

Well, we haven't had anything yet! We did have early Tuesday Morning ice (thick patches of it on my front porch) so much so that I stayed home from work yesterday (of course I could of went in a few hours late but, my son convince me that it was only going to get worse before I got home so I decided to stay home. Ice was gone by 10:00a.m. and no, it wasn't any worse at 5:00. Went in today, very cold. 17 degrees here at the house. right now its maybe 25. tonight its suppose to get 15 degrees. No snow or ice yet, that is for Thrusday night early Friday morning -guess I will call in Friday as well! I really don't know how any one in the Eastern part of the states live with this, I slept in my sweat pants and had at least 2 thick blankets on the bed last night. Told my husband that this is what I am going to be wearing for the next few days. His only response was that he hopes I watch my outfit after a couple of day. Nice.... but he knows that I am cold natured. Suppose to be nice this weekend and then another blast of artic air is expected early next week. Well, at least Phil saw his shadow this morning. So here is hoping to a early Spring.

My husband is home for the second day in a row!! It's kind of a miracle as he's a workaholic, lol. He was going to try to go in today, but along with the ice on the roads, Dallas is having rolling blackouts. So, every 45 minutes the electricity goes off for 15 minutes. By the time they had the computers up and running, the power would go out again. So they just closed the office (nobody really showed up anyway). Since he owns the company, he just did it from home. And he may be here tomorrow because our driveway is straight downhill and covered in thick ice. It's kind of like a mini-vacation, except no beach or warm weather

Katie: they are having them here in certain areas of our offices; just the one time here at mine and at home but in our Waco and San Antonio they are having them every 45 minutes so a lot of staff decided they are not coming in due to that.

Here in Chicago we were hit by that blizzard last night. I measured my driveway snow and it was 32" of snow!!!! They brought in a bucket loader to clear off our neighborhood streets, gotta love that.

About Chicago's blizzard. Is this the norm for Chicago? I read that Chicago hardly ever closes schools.

32" is a lot of snow to get at one time. Lucky you!

Well, Anna, I wish that you could somehow relay that message to Mother Nature, cuz the high temp today was 17. And it's not THAT warm anymore now. We're on our way back down!!!

@KatieB - ha ha love to be famous! I'm originally from Seattle where we never saw that kind of snowfall.

@luvsterriors - Yes, we are generally covered in snow for months and months on end but I suppose thats better then brown dormant grass! The reason why the schools rarely close is because we have some of the best snow removal equipment in the country. Even after all that snow the streets and neighborhoods are clear today! When we first moved here I was quite impressed by it.
Generally they close schools here for cold temperatures. In fact my kids schools are closed tomorrow because its supposed to be neg 8 tonight and very cold tomorrow.
