    Okay,
This is really unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but thought I would ask anyway.
I've been going to the same stylist for years and years and for the most part, have always been happy with the cuts and especially the color.
However, the last time I went to her, she really messed up my hair. I guess I should have gone back right away, but I kept thinking it would grow out a bit and look okay. This did not happen. I look awful and can't do a thing with my semi-curly, semi-wavy hair which is cut fairly short,)ear length but a bit longer in back, with long bangs that won't stay straight. The cut is all choppy, with a million layers and impossible to handle.
I wouldn't care so much except that our grand daughter's Bat Mitzvah is coming in at the end of June and I want to look at least semi-decent.
The question is, do I go back to Jennifer and ask her to repair the mess, or do I look for someone new and say, help! I don't know anyone around here whose hair I like enough to ask for a stylist suggestion,so I would have to go by Washingtonian Magazine's recs. or Northern Va. magazine's best of, or, Angies list. Going to someone brand new feels kind of uncomfortable, but I do need someone who can fix this mess, as much as it can be fixed,(can't glue the hair back on)!
Anway, mostly venting and trying to think this out .
As I said at the beginning, not a big deal really, just one more brick in the wall!

It IS a big deal! If you've been happy with previous experiences with the same person, I think I would at least talk with her --- maybe she had something going on in her life and needs some understanding. You still have a little time before the end of June to make some needed changes. I do understand --- I got a really horrible hair cut from a highly recommended beautician and it seems like it's taking forever for it to grow out enough to even fix it. My hair is very straight so a bad haircut really shows.

You may have to go pretty short for a little while, but at least short hair is stylish this year.

      hair

      Thanks, Donna!
I think you're right, I DO need to speak with Jennifer.
I didn't know short is in this season but that does seem to be the best solution.

Since you state this happened at the hands of your regular stylist in all fairness the first place to start in getting it rectified is with her. I've been a stylist for 22 yrs so I've had my share of goofs (we're all human); and there is nothing more irritating than the customer going elsewhere w/o first discussing the problem with me. The main reason being is that unless its a complete and total disaster theres always a solution; this solution is best rendered at the hands of the person who's familiar with your hair. Another reason for going and at least allowing the stylist to hear you out is that most salons (especially if its a chain salon) will deduct the service from the stylists pay. This is very unfair if the stylist isnt at least made aware of the problem from the customer first hand. If you feel after talking with the stylist that its best you go elsewhere, at least the stylist (and you) have had the opportunity to try to resolve the problem w/o any one elses intervention and there will be no "bad blood", if you will, should you ever want to return to said stylist.

Good luck getting it fixed. The good thing with hair is that it always grows out.

I always tell my stylist that she is an artist, and even though a couple of times she did cut my pixie extremely short, I try to keep in mind that it will grow. I like an artsy cut with a bit of spike to give my short do some lift.

I would definitely start with the stylist who cut your hair --- and go from there. Tell her that you know hair is an art form, but you weren't expecting a 'Picasso!'

It's very hard to fix a short hair style. If all else fails try buying a wig for the special event. Something close to how you normally wear your hair. I lost my hair due to Elmiron. I went to a place that helps cancer patients and told them my problem. What I bought was beautiful and looked very real. A year later my hair grew back. I still use that wig for an emergency must get out the door. Such as a loved one being in the ER. You can look on line. There are many wig companies. A high end company costs more but worth it. Much better quality. Just a thought. This is a big deal. What is more important then our hair when we go to an important family get together! Look in the yellow pages. You may have a wig store near you. I hope you can get your own hair fixed but as I said this is one option. Hugs, Ziggy

              hair disaster

              Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the input. It's so nice of you all to take the time to help with my hair!
DG, I understand what you're saying. I would have to say that my hair IS a total disaster, and also that my stylist is not working for a chain, she works for herself and just rents a booth in a salon, so she has no one to answer to except herself.
However, I do get your point. In fairness, I guess I need to let Jennifer try to rectify this somehow, though I suspect, as Donna said, that will mean a very short cut.

              Coopsmom, Picasso, I love it!

Ziggy, I actually did think about a wig, but I just hate anything on my head, even a lightweight hat. Drives me crazy. Still, maybe just for a couple of days... Something to think about.

If I misquoted anyone, I apologize. I'm still only partly awake!

Again, thanks for all the input. I hope you're all doing well.

To clarify--I didnt mean to sound as if I feel your stylist should be the one to fix her mistake/misunderstanding/whatever. I just meant that its only fair that she be made aware of your concern especially so since it sounds as if she's your regular stylist. After speaking to her, if you still feel unhappy by all means take your business elsewhere.
I've worked at both a chain and a private salon. Either way its disappointing when a customer who's entrusted me for their hair care needs completely dismisses me due to being dissatisfied. I've also been on the receiving end of a not-so-great hair cut (by coworkers no less)--even still, its been brought to their attention.

Regardless, I hope you find a solution.

bubbe1, another temporary solution for your occasion might be some of those clip-in hair extensions. They sell them at Sally Beauty and a bunch of other places. You can put them in and take them out as often as you want to and you could even have them cut to blend in with your own hair while it's growing back out. Since you said you don't like anything covering your head, I just thought this might be another option.

                    hair mess

                    DG,
Got ya. I agree with you and has it happens, I have an appt. this afternoon to go and talk to my stylist. We'll see what happens.
BTW, where the heck is Bunny. We need him, now!

Phoenix, what a great idea. I was not aware of the clip in type of hair extensions, only the real ones, which cost a fortune.

Thanks to both of you for your concern.
                    Laurie

                        Hi Cathy,
The appt. went well. I had a long talk with my stylist and though I was friendly and not at all cranky sounding, I was firm in explaining that the cut didn't work no matter how hard I tried to style it.
Jen gave it some thought and together we came up with something which I think will work out much better. We shall see!
                        Thanks so much for asking.

P.S. I love your little doglett!

I'm so happy to hear that you and your stylist were able to come up with a resolution to the problem cut!

Tucker was 7 years old in January. We adopted him off of Petfinder.com when he was only 6 weeks old. He was listed with a local rescue group here in my city.
