  • Wild things!

We've had some wild turkeys roaming around our acreage this spring. Today our Meggie dog was out in the field and was chased by one. We went out to see if there is a nest out there and found three baby turkeys on a branch with the mom watching out for them.

We haven't had wild turkeys before so it's pretty exciting. We'll keep Meggie out of the field for a few days.

Poor Meggie,...chased by a turkey! How embarrassing. I hope the other dogs don't find out! Really, I'm just chuckling because I've seen my dog chased, tail tucked between legs, by an angry hen too. It's comical.

When I was a little girl my uncle had a turkey that would attack my cousin and me every time we stepped out the door on their farm --- they can be vicious --- that turkey bit my leg enough to cause bleeding. I still remember and when we went out in the field today I took my hiking stick with me. .....and we kept our distance.

I can just see your Meggie running for her life!
Our former dog, a standard poodle, was once chased by a mommy robin! Being a pretty tough dog, with a certain reputation to maintain, poor Gabby must have been mortified!
I guess there's no creature more ferocious than a mommy.

Geese will attack you as well. I have personal experiences with them, mean little things! Wild turkeys will "adopt" you and stay around like a pet. My parents had two of them take up at their house for a while. They followed them around like puppy dogs. One day they disappeared, we wonder if they became someone's Thanksgiving dinner.

Maybe you could post a picture of the babies, I have never seen young turkeys before.
