  • Pet food recall

I am not sure if any of you have heard about this, I wanted to let as many pet owners know as possible. Unfortunately several cats and dogs have died due to kidney problems. My understanding is that the recall only affects the brands listed and wet food only for both cats and dogs. Also, it looks like it is for brands sold in the US, Canada and Mexico only.
Here is the link to the article:

Here is an easier to read list of the recalled foods:

Spread the word to pet owners you know.

This is some very scary stuff. I saw this on the national news the other day. We went through can after can of dog and cat food to make sure they didn't have the same dates as those being recalled. We DO have some of the same food, it basically covers almost ALL dog and cat foods, but only those with a certain date.

Sigh...one more thing to worry about!

    Thanks for posting this.

04/17/09 Crohn's disease almost killed me with a combo of extreme constipation from pain medications. My bowel ruptured, I almost died from peritonitis and spent several days in the ICU then more in a private room on the floor. If you have any questions about severe constipation from pain meds please don't hesitate to send me a message.

This was on the boards over the weekend, but it's good to have a reminder; our pets are so important to us. We only feed out dog dry food (on the advice of our vet) and fortunately we don't use any of the brands mentioned.

        Whoops!

I just realized a few minutes ago that Jill had already posted something about this! I got an email about the recall this morning and went right here to post without looking at other threads. My bad! Just another reminder of how forgetful and ditzy some of these meds make me!

Well, at least the word is out now.....
So glad to hear everyone's animals are O.K. My kitty only eats dry food, so she is unaffected too.

Rachel: Thanks for the reminder on the dog food recall. I caught the "tail end" lol of it on the news but missed the different names of food recalled. I also missed Jill's post, so your info helped me, because I now know the names, and of course what I feed my dog was on the list.

First peanut butter and now this!! Whats next? Luckily, ours eat only dry food. I know someone just gave us some wet food the other day - didn't open it, and after I heard about the recall, I thru it out.

My sister had a lot of the Peter pan peanut butter and she was always sick couldn't figure out why, till I told her about that, boy, she threw away all the jars she had--think she had about 4-- (she gets abot 2 jars a month from WIC-so she has been eating it for awhile)
