  • lost my girly this year

on valentines day this year i lost my girly.....
she was really old and not too well (blind and deaf) but we were the two sicky girls of the house
she was always there for me and i am just missing her today
i have gone through most of the grieving process (i guess they call it that right? )
she had another stroke and she lost the use of her back legs and then the next night she had another one and she went totally limp and then she just passed on......it was horrible to see and will probably haunt me for life
and i know its been a couple months and i know i have gotten out of bed and gotten a bit on with my life but it still hurts so bad.....
it took me two years to get her to trust me and then we were inseperable for 4 years after that.....i know that isn't much time really but when your dealing with sickness and pain the ones that care for you really mean a lot.....
and i dunno i just had to say something.....
we are hoping to get a lil brother for my aussie but it just won't be the same
i dunno just having a bad day (stomach, bladder and whole body pain)
anyway i hope all are doing well and i hope people who have new fur babies are loving them
Have dealt with chronic pain and gerd/ibs since '98 endometriosis, vulvodynia diagnosed 2000, ic diagnosed around 2004, chronic epstein barr-like virus 2011
Hysterectomy/oophorectomy 2014 endo had destroyed everything
Now dealing with recurrence and menopause in late 30s
Other things--migraines, chronic hives, eczema, raynauds, congenital scoliosis, broke 3 vertebrae in middle of back when i was 16, heart defect (ventrical septal defect)

I'm sorry for your loss Stef! It's always so hard losing a family member, and I would think it was doubly hard for you to have been there to witness girly's stroke and all. Very sad.

What a heartbreaking loss. I can certainly understand why you would feel this way. I have a little dog named Tucker. He was 7 years old in January. I cannot bear to even think of the day that will take my sweet boy from me. I've never had a little inside dog before, and never realized how much they come to mean in our lives. (((hugs)))

        thank you

        thank you so much
it is hard to lose a family member......glad to know people here believe that they are family members......
its weird when you say that to someone and they just say oh get a new one or oh its just a cat......of course they are the same people that don't understand our pain that we experience everyday.....
she was the silliest kitty.....and at the end of it, had bladder issues too....
it was just so hard to see her have the stroke......
but it was very nice to her pass on at home.....
i don't think she suffered since the second one hit and then she was gone within a few minutes......
i was sorta a recluse and not wanting to talk to anyone for a while there....
i have been flaring ever since.....
        its just too much sometimes....
i hope to find some relief soon.....
hope all are doing well though
and hope all furbabies are doing well too
        take great care

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your fur baby. We bond so closely with our pets, and they become so much a part of our life that it truly is a deep loss when they leave us. They are such comfort to us when we aren't feeling well and are content to sit with us in trying times. I've lost several fur children over the years and every time I do I tell myself I can't go through it again and won't get another pet- but I always do. They are such a joy to have, I couldn't imagine my life without an animal companion.

Hi I totaly get it, they get us they are just happy to see us, happy to spend the day cuddled up if that's what you need to do, love unconditionally and are always there fore you.

I had to have my old dog put down in Nov. she was sick and had been for a while. I just kept hoping she would die in her sleep, but she didn't, she wasn't suffering or I could have easily put her down. she loved to go for walks but was not able to walk very far any more so I ook her for walks in the wagon, she would get out and wlk a bit and then ask to get back in, she loved to go to town and wait outside stores for me so everyone could say hello to her.

It came down to crunch time we were going away for 4 mons, I had people say they would take her but the vet said she was alive due to my care for the last couple of years and she surely would not live much longer and did I want her to die with people she didn't know. My husband wanted to take her with us, I wanted her to come too but the realist in me knew she would not survive the flight, and I could not bare arriving at the airport late at night only to find out she had died alone in flight, so we made the hard decission and had her put down right before we left. It was so hard.

But what i hadn't expected was when we returned I just can't get over her not coming out to greet me at the car when I come home, I cry as I right this, did someone post do you cry easier, yup.. I miss walking with her so much I borrow dogs to walk, the dogs I walk I know love to go but it isnot like having my own.

I love my cats all 3 of them and my husband dosen't want to get another dog, but I really do want another one. I understand we are to retirement time and he dosen't want to be tied down with another dog.

I really feel for your loss and your missing the comfort on bad days.

              MG

                lost my girly

                MG,
                That's so sad.
I remember how hard it was when we put our Standard Poodle down. He was only 10 and healthy, but he had terrble hip problems and finally just could not stand at all anymore. This was a while ago, before dog hip replacements were done, so we had to put him to sleep.
As you said, I kept waiting for him to greet us at the door. I SWORE we were not getting another dog, but then we were volunteering with the Humane Society and they had a mini poodle who was too sick to go into their kennel ,so they asked us to foster him. 12 years later, at 15, he's still with us and I told him he's just going to have to live forever.
My heart goes out to everyone who has to put a pet to sleep. They truely are our best comfort some times.

Thank you for your kind words.

My husband is a softy and if we come across a dog in need of a home, I am quite sure we will end up having another one. Last summer while out walking I had a run in with a bear, and the summer before I got attacked by 2 dogs, so I also think if something happens like this again he may feel different.

God will put in the right place at the right time if it is ment to be. for now I can love my friends dogs.
