  • never tust any dog around Children.

I was one of those parents oh my dogs will never bite you! Today I am here to tell you what happened to me and hope I can get through it with out bawling.
I have Had Piper 7 yrs since she was a pup, and Bear 8 years since he was a pup. As you know I inherited 2 more kids as my daughter headed to college. My doggies were my kids, and most haven't a clue. First it was a growl here and there with piper the kids got to close, and she started snapping, next bear kicked in with it too.
I was on the Potty lol thats a given, I hear this blood curdling screen I jumped up and flew through the house to see my 3yr old daughters mouth dripping in blood. I grabbed a wet rag and held and rocked her I asked what happen but wasn't getting anything out of her. Bear walked down the hall with his tail between his legs so I kind knew. But what I thought was she sat on him and he jumped to move. Thursday my Daughter being her rambunctious self tripped and fell in front of piper and he bit her fore head. I freaked out and prayed we didn't need to go to er. Luckily enouch her top left incisor and bottom right incisor put two deep scratches on her forehead, but no stitches needed. We put butterfly ones on them. I did the right thing and took them to a no kill shelter. I cannot have 2 dogs that bite, 1 is to many. It about killed me as they were my babies.
So I was upset, and talking to my sister in law and she says you will be better off with out them, its not like you needed 3 dogs anyway, all they do is lay around. I said well I wanted all my dogs (had 3) so she goes on to tell me basically it was my fault for having 3 dogs. Then she says, well besides that how are you? So all night I get texted are you mad at me? why won't you text me. Cuz I didn't want to rip her head off. Friday 15 texts how are you, I am sorry I didn't mean what I said. So I Texted her and said if you did not mean what you said you wouldn't have said it. When your husband asked you for a divorce, I was there for you and never said anything out of line and tried to help you any way I could. How would you of felt if I said oh so and so would be so much better off with out you!! but no I didn't and he really would be.
In the midst of losing two of my family members because you and I all know biting dogs and kids can't be together, and some one kicking you why you were down hurts a great deal.

Please everyone watch your dogs for signs, low growls that become more, especially older ones, and snapping. I said oh she won't bit her she just warning her shes to close. boy was I fooled, 2 times in one week, and now my fur-babies are gone. and it hurts alot.

I'm sorry, Cindy. What an awful position to be in. You know you did the right thing but that doesn't make it any easier.

I know how pets can be like a family member.

What happens with dogs is they become jealous and thats why they growled and bit your daughter.

You had no choice and you did the right thing in sending them to a shelter.

I am sure they will find a good home so do not get upset for doing the right thing.

              Thank you my friends. it was very hard to do, its a little easier today, but I miss them terribly. Gracie walked room to room looking for them, she is Pipers pup but she is 3 years old. She went out and walked the yard, and back in walking room to room looking at me. I think she will recover faster then me. Gracie never growled and Savannah sat on her and has used her for a step stool. My fur-babies were beautiful, and will get adopted. I hope ={

I know it's very difficult for you, but you did the right thing as a responsible parent, as well as a responsible pet owner.

                Warm hugs,

I am soory for the situation Tiger-gal. I'm very happy you posted what happened. Even a small Chihuahua should never be trusted with little children. I learned that the hard way. Your post may save many from the same pain you have had. NEVER EVER leave a dog alone with any small child. Anything can happen from minor to major. Many may post that their dog protects their child and that is true but it is just not worth the chance. Hugs, Ziggy

I am so sorry for the situation you are in. I am sure that it was a super hard thing to do, pets are like our children. But you are right you can't have dogs that bite around children. I am just so glad that you did the right thing, as hard as it was, there are alot of people that would have kept the dog and blamed the kids.
I am so sorry for the terrible situation. You are a great mom and a great dog owner.

I knew someone that her dog ab/rotty, bit her child in the face and put 18 stitches in her face. she did blame her child. that dog may not of made it to the pound.
Its hard. but no growling and snapping isn't happening.

What a terrible decision to have to make but you did what any mother has to do, you put your children first. Still, I know it hurts. That's what happens when you love!

Kudos on choosing a no-kill shelter! I'm sure your dogs will be adopted and go on to live full, happy lives.

                          Hugs,
