  • I am heart broken

I have 3 cats, 1 that is 13 and sticks really close to the house, 1 that is about 6 and goes out every am and catches her day catch a bird and a mouse or 2 birds and then come in and sleeps all day.

The 3rd cat is around 4 and often goes out and stays out for a few hours and comes back and sleeps on the kitchen chair for the afternoon and then goes back out before dinner for a bit.

All the cats are trained to come when called and all are not allowed out after evening meal, the 2 younger ones sleep with us and often go to bed before us.

2 days ago they all went out after breakie and I went out for a couple of hours, the older 2 had come back in but not the youngest one, I didn't think too much about it at the time as in the past she would eat breakfast and go out till supper, but always came in when called except on 2 occasions.

1st she came back on her own the next day in the afternoon, obviously had been hurt or was sick, and recovered a few days later, 2nd time we found her in the am the next day way up a tree stuck, we figured out she had been chased up the tree by a cougar, and luckily on her part she was fast and the tree go too small to hold the cougar, she never would have been able to make it back down the tree as she was stuck in such a position that she could not free herself.

This time she has not come back and we have not been able to find her, this is day 3 now, very unlike her. It is kind of like looking for a needle in a hay stack we live on the edge of forest and swamp land. We would have to find the exact area she is in and hopefully she would still have the energy to cry out to let us know she was there. There are lots of predators around here that could get her, this is why I don't let my cats out at night.

I am afraid something has gotten her, it would just be nice to know so I could stop hoping every noise I hear is her coming home.

She is a very resilient cat, and very self reliant, a good hunter, so I do hold out hope she is still alive and will turn up, you hear stories like that all the time.

At the moment I am very stressed with a bunch of other things and I am finding it hard to stay positive she will be okay and return.

Wish me luck, I am leaving Tuesday for a month and would really like to know one way or an other what has happened to her, of course I may never know.

I am heart broken, I had to have my dog put down last Nov and still haven't quite got used to that yet.

Thanks for listening I know all pet/cat lover know where I am coming from.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I can imagine your worry because animals are like children, and we worry about them like we do our kids.

I pray she comes back safely.

(Feel free to ask me any questions about meds.)

I walked around again yesterday calling her and talking to people. I got 3 reports of cats being attacked and one report of a cat being missing 3 weeks, and and dog too, this usually means a cougar is around and will keep coming till it fines no more food.

My other 2 cats are not too happy with me as I won't let them out, we have long cold winters where they won't go out, so they like their time out catching birds and mice in the summer, but they are just not safe at this time.

It has been 4 days now and I have a gut feeling she was dinner, but I will not give up hope, stranger things have been known to happen, you hear all the time about cats going missing for a period of time and then showing up.

          So there is always hope.

We lost our dog last Nov. and I think she kept the wild animals at bay and kept our cats safe when out side. I want another dog to walk with me I am used to having bear dogs that have kept me safe for 30 years of walking in the bush, they would never let anything get me, but since loosing the last one I have had a close encounter with a bear, Mom and cub, been followed by a cougar, and been bit by a dog, while another one attached me. Maybe this will help my husband decided that an other dog is in order.

Thanks for your well wishes MG

I think a new dog is definitely in order! Though I have to admit, it sounds like you live in a very peaceful place with lots of nature and wildlife to enjoy. However, bears and cougars being that close is nerve-wracking to say the least.

I'm hoping your kitty returns soon.

              Thanks

I do live in the rocky mountains and it is beautiful here, but it does have some down sides.

It is also so nice to see this wild life from a distance.

              Thanks MG

Hi, MG ~ I'm so sorry about your kitty. Ours disappeared too one day a few years ago. It's so heart breaking to not know what exactly happened. She was the only calico in the neighborhood and I kept hoping that someone was feeding her and giving her a new home rather than thinking the worst.

When I was little our kitty was gone for a number of days and then one day app
eared on our sofa (through the kitty door). She looked like a "monster"....her face very beaten up, jaw broken and fur filthy. The vet guessed that maybe she had crawled up into someones car motor for the warmth and the fan might have gotten her....then they sometimes take refuge somewhere until the feel a bit better.

Hope she comes back soon. Hugs, hugs!!!!
Never heard of IC til suspected....Never knew so many suffer from it. Praying for a cure. I've found answers...so can you...keep the hope.

Thank for the words, I know what you say it true, I am hoping that she is hold up somewhere, or stuck up a tree and will eventually fall out, if she would even be able to make it home after that I don't know, but it is hope.

What bothers me is I have to go away tomorrow till mid Sept. my family will still be here so if she turns up someone will nurse her back to health, I would just really like her to turn up tonight so I don't have to leave worried.

She is a cat but I just can't stop crying over her, we still have her mom and our older Himalayan, she was my cat.

Our other calico cat went missing for about 10 days a few years ago, a friend was taking her to my daughter, and to put it short she got away in a town between point a and b. I was in Europe so no one told me right away, my daughter drove out there everyday and went door to door and put posters up, but it was a farming area and most people were we don't bother with cats but barn cats.

I cried for days when I found out, and out of the blue she went up to a house of a young woman who had kept my daughter's poster, she cried till the woman heard her and let her in, she called my daughter and we got her back, against all odds.

                  Thanks MG
