  • What Has Worked For Me

    Hi Everybody,

I just wanted to share my good news, though this is my first time posting ever.

I needed to share my experiences I have with IC for the past 2 ½ years, which have been in pain everyday until recently. I also suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogrens with a recent diagnosis of a chronic lung infection. My Rheumatologist made me get off of the medication Embrel. I had been taking Embrel for about 13 years, but due to my lung infection he took me off of Embrel. For a replacement drug for my arthritis, he prescribed 50 mg ‘Imuran’, while I also started taking the birth control pill continuously for the IC pain.

To my surprise, in a bout 2 ½ weeks, I noticed I did not have any more IC pain. No more bladder, pelvic or vaginal stabbing pain, nor did I have any further burning pain and my urination frequency improved.

Following up with my Rheumatologist, I advised him of my research of ‘Immuno-Suppressant’ class of medication to treat IC. His reply was that ‘Imuran’ was an ‘Immuno-Suppressant’. He felt that the ‘Imuran’ would be the cause of the pain relief. His next advice is for me to get off of the birth control pills due to a high possibility of the side-effects of blood clots. I have been off of the birth control pill and I am on day 25 of being pain-free.http://www.ic-network.com/forum/imag...es/woohoo1.gif
    :woohoo:

I thank God everyday, also to let others know ‘Imuran’ helped me, but with a warning the ‘Imuran/Azathioprine’ can increase your chances/risk of developing certain cancers, especially skin cancer and lymphoma with other side-effects.

Thank You for letting me share this with you all.

That's wonderful. I've had IC pain everyday for about the last 2 1/2 years too. It's funny how you just stumble across something totally unconnected to the IC and it works. It's worth looking into. Thank you for passing this along. I hope this continues to work for you. Keep us posted to any changes.

I am so glad you're feeling better & am not surprised at the immune connection to all of this. I hope you just keep feeling better & better!
