lol.......I wouldn't just run to the store. Vistaril and Atarax are the best. They are actually more specific to the skin (and thus the bladder) than Benedryl.
Personally, if I had to give up every other medication I would kick, scream, fight, beg, borrow, (ok I wouldn't steal ) my Atarax. It was truly a lifesaver for me.
This is a well-known issue. In fact, when they do a bladder biopsy as part of a cystoscopy with hydrodistention, they are looking largely for the presence of mast cells in the bladder wall, which then signifies IC.
This theory is why many IC specialists and other urologists prescribe an antihistamine like Atarax or Vistaril to their patients -- to attempt to slow mast cell degranulation in the bladder and thus, help alleviate some IC symptoms.
