I am smiling at my new IC doctor! I took the advise of some IC sisters who I met on facebook and went to a local urogynecolgist they both see. He sent me to pelvic floor physical therapy. I was very skeptical, but as he was so highly recommended and had helped my friends, I went to the therapy because he ordered it! I love the fact that this has taken away the constant pain I was in and has made life much better in the bedroom also. We were about to despair in that area. The PT program is called Proaxistherapy and we are now working on constipation issues which have been a problem for years and I am just now realizing that contributes to my IC. Every time I go to therapy I learn something new to help me and I have days when I actually forget to take the lyrica for pain because I am so much better!! You must try Pelvic Floor Pt!
So very happy for your success with PT! :woohoo: All you need is a good one who is familiar with it and there you go. You go girl, and keep up the good work. Sounds like your doc is on top of things, you are very fortunate. Jill, wife of Bob
This is wonderful! I will ask my doctor about PT! I am happy for you!!

Diagnosed in early 7-2008 w/ IC: glomerations, mucosal cracking, & crystal embedding in the trigone. First cystoscopy & hydrodistention 7-2008
Fervent prayer to God-I'm seeking divine healing on God's time table-it hasn't happened yet but I trust in Him for deliverance!
Tried: Hydroxyzine HCL 50mg-I was a zombie! ,Took 300 mg Elmiron daily (over a year later), Instills, Amitryptiline, Cymbalta, Acupuncture, Herbs & marshmallow root tea, Hydrocodone than oxycodone for pain, Tramadol, Soma, Phenazopyridine (pyridium), MSM gel
Still taking: Gabapentin (3 pills each night-300mg each), Melatonin (natural supplement)
The latest, trying to cut out wheat & sugar to see if it helps ( I am desperate to find something-other than meds)! I just got off of a oxycodone habit that I originally was using to try & kill pain to function. I believe I had Opioid-induced hyperalgesia! My pain is not much worse giving up the pain meds after taking them for 4.5 years...it's about the same! It was a vicious cycle!
IC runs in my family-My aunt has the same condition. The women on my maternal side have frequency issues. I have had frequency for many years. The pain started in December 2005 after I was in a car accident. Other : Hip disease (legg perthes as a child-resulting in a damaged femoral head), I had total hip replacement on my right hip in April 2010 at the age of 34. Had a hysterectomy in October 2010 due to pelvic pain & an unusual uterus.
I know for a fact that I have pelvic floor issues! I feel like sometimes I cant make my muscles pee or poo (sorry TMI) And I think I'm in a flare right now because I was constipated! Unfortuneately, my doc says that there aren't any good people in our area! Dang it!
symptoms when in a flare:
I feel everything in my urethra but I know its really my bladder. Pressure, stinging, urgency, tingling feeling thats hard to describe.
*I have a fibroid on my uterus near my bladder.
Medication
100mg Amitripyline ( I have seriously gained almost 50lbs on this drug but I feel it works)
Flexoril 10mg (doesn't work)
Hydrocodone 5/325 PRN
Cetalopram 40mg *severe anxiety over flare
Physical therapy hasnt really helped but I love her! I've learned so much! She states that my muscles around
My urethra are very tight.
currently seeing a Gyn in my town and a Uro in Seattle (4 hrs away)
I have had lots of long term remissions. Currently been struggling with good & bad days since Jan 2012

I'm so sorry, mine did not get better from PT, even though I went & did it for about 2 months. Perhaps others it helps, though? We all seem so different. It can't hurt to try it!
