  • For those that have IC run in their families...

    Hi All,
It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I've been thinking about the genetics of this for those of us that have other family members with IC. I was curious to hear from others at what age did your IC symptoms appear and if you have any other conditions or family members with other conditions. Also curious to hear what you have found helpful in managing your IC. Cystoprotek helps me when I have struggled. My daughter has IC and instills really helped her.

As far as I know, nobody in my family has IC --- I hope others will be able to answer your question.

I have an older sister and a daughter who both have it. We suspect my mother and grandmother may have also.

        Hi MommaD,

How do you, your sister, and daughter manage your IC? It's interesting to see if we respond similar to our family members since we all have the same cause. It seems IC probably has a few different causes, yet for us, we know there is a hereditary link. I do well with Cystoprotek and my daughter responds well to Atarax and instills. I never was offered instils years ago, but my IC has been in remission for years, so I haven't needed to try anything. Out of curiosity, do you have autoimmune issues in your family? I can't help but feel this is a genetic autoimmune issue in my family. My sister has celiac and I have high ANA's and had symptoms suggestive of lupus years ago after a pregnancy that disappeared.

Oh, and also, do you all have any conditions you deal with? I have IC and weird ANA's, my daughter IC, high ANA's too and TMJ now it seems. We both have mild hypotension issues too.

My mother and sister both have it. My sister developed it early (17 years old) and seems to be largely in remission...we are in our 40s now.
Diagnosed with IC in 2005, PFD in 2016. My sister has had IC for 21 years and our mother over 30. 66 years of bladder fun combined!
