  • Bladder installations

Hi I've just done 4 weeks of bladder installations. I now have a UTI. Has this happened to anybody else?

It depends really. I've been given antibiotics as well. I'm going to persevere, I've got 5 more to go over the next 5 weeks, then every other week. We can just play it by here really. If they improve the bladder in the long term then it's worth it I guess???

True that's what my Dr said. I did however ring hospital and cancelled my further two. Then I thought best to speak to the nurse first and see what she says.

The only benefit I've had so far from them is a soothing bladder and holding the solution for an hour. I still have urgency.

Urgency was never a problem of mine, lower bladder pain and burning is my issue. I did notice that after the treatment I started feeling urgency issues, but they have gone now.

Any time we have a catheter inserted into the bladder there is an increase in the potential for infection. In some instances, a preventive antibiotic can be used to prevent infection if the instillations are helping. I have had many, many instillations and very few infections.

Deavans, my symptoms are similar to yours. I find my bladder/ urethra is a little irritated for 24hrs after the instill but in the long run I think they help! You can ask for adoxycycline pill after each installation to ward off a uti. My uro actually puts an antibiotic in the instill (getcetamine?) as a precaution.

Thank you for the advice. I spoke to hospital yesterday they said still come in for next week installation. Nurse will test urine and decide whether to go ahead. I will have finished my anti biotic by then . I'm feeling rather sore and swallon will have to see if any better next week. .
