  • Vesicoureteral reflux as a child

I had grade 5 vesicoureteral reflux when I was 8 years old which required surgery to correct. I've been diagnosed with IC for 11 years now. I am wondering how many others also had vesicoureteral reflux and now have IC. Thanks for any reply.

    to the IC Network.

I'm not familiar with vesicoureteral reflux, but it's not unusual for urinary tract problems happen early on in IC patients. I'll do a search for that particular reflux problem and get back to you.

    Warm hugs,
    Donna

Thanks, Donna. I have researched extensively trying to find a connection to vesicoureteral reflux and IC. In addition to vesicoureteral reflux, where urine travels the wrong direction through the ureters, I also outgrew my ureters at age 8. I continued to grow but my ureters didn't. This resulted in the toxins leaking into my bloodstream, causing serious repeated illness. It took a while for doctors to figure out the problem. That happened in 1978.Ureter extensions were done which saved my life. Fast forward to 2008 when I was diagnosed with IC at the age of 38. I also had severe endometriosis on my organs, including my bladder. I had a complete hysterectomy in 2016. I've asked my urologist about any connection with my previous and current conditions, he said it is common to have IC after being diagnosed with vesicoureteral reflux. I am in search of anyone who's been through these conditions, to compare how it's affected people.
