  • Please help me decide if I have IC. Quite stressed trying to figure this out.

Hi everyone. My name is Jack, I live in Bali , Indonesia. I joined the forum to help myself come to an accurate diagnosis of what is bothering me. Prostatitis? Pelvic floor pain? Interstitial Cystitis? I am wondering if it's the latter. I need input because the doctors here are confused, I believe, and the types of tests available here are limited.

    My main symptoms are:

    1. Quite bad pain along my urethra that comes and goes, but I have it everyday. Can last for hours.

    2. Sometimes the base of my penis and prostate are is sore as well, either together with the urethra pain or alone by itself.

    3. My bladder never seems painful.

    4. I have had frequent urination for 20 years now, but not with the above problems, which just started this year.

(I did do a TURP operation 5 months ago to fix the frequent urination, and the surgeon did remove some tissue, but that has not fixed my problem.)

    Question:

Is it possible, with no other symptoms than he ones above, no bladder pain, etc. that I have Interstitial Cystitis>?

Please somebody, help me. I live in Indonesia and I am having a difficult time finding a good urologist.

    Many thanks,
    Jack

First I'd like to say to the IC Network.

It's possible that what you have is interstitial cystitis, but I am not able to even guess if that's what is going on with you. However, I do have a suggestion that might help your doctors to reach a diagnosis. One is to give the IC diet a try for at least several weeks and, at the same time, keep a detailed diary, noting times, everything that goes in your mouth, when you urinate (and about how much), activities, pain levels --- then take the diary with you to medical appointments. It might help with diagnosis, plus if you do have IC, it can help you identify your triggers so you can feel better.

Please let me know how you are doing.

Many thanks Donna. May I ask, where can I find an easy quick synopsis of the IC diet? I did just now do a search of the forum, and although I found dozens of posts about it, I couldn't find a beginners outline. Cheers and thanks again for your help.

Ok so understand that the bladder is often the secondary victim of another problem in the pelvis, usually some sort of pelvic injury. ... In fact, a new study just came out that showed that men with testicle pain actually had an underlying muscle/hip problem.. and once treated, their pain improved. So, it's important to back 20 years and think about any traumas you might have experienced... falls, car accidents, etc. etc.

Many thanks Jill, I'll have a look at that, and also might go for one of those coaching sessions. I really need help with a diagnosis, otherwise I'll just waste time and money chasing guesses. Yet, between Prostatitis, IC, and CPPS even the best doctors out there, from what I read on forums like yours, often have a very difficult time deciding what it is. I do think talking to people who suffer from each of those choices will help me understand what's going on.
