Hello all, nice to meet you. My name is Dana. I was diagnosed with IC last year, after some extremely hellish nights of waking up 10-15 times with a false alarm to urinate. My doctor has since prescribed me a low-dose antidepressant, Nortriptyline, which works well. I still have to adhere to the diet, however, as I'm sure you're all familiar with, and I find it okay mostly but sometimes frustrating. It's been especially hard to give up some favorite foods of mine like tomatoes and chocolate. Last night I made saffron rice, and had a bad flare up during the night. No fun. Looking forward to reading your stories and getting to know some new people who are also working through this situation.

I'm glad you've found some ways to feel better --- I know the diet can be frustrating at times --- but it's worth the effort.

You mentioned tomatoes so I will share a substitute I have found --- if you tolerate sweet red peppers. I remove the seeds and chop them up into about one-inch pieces, add a little water, cover and cook until tender --- cool for a while so they are easy to work with, then puree in my blender until they are smooth. I have some plastic freezer containers that hold about one cup and I fill them to about a half inch from the top and freeze. Then I use as a substitute for tomato sauce to make spaghetti and pizza. It's really a treat for me. I try to pick up several peppers when they are on sale so I always have some in the freezer.

    Sending healing thoughts,
    Stay safe
