  • Possible IC

Hello. So thankful to have found this group. Is it common for IC symptoms to show up rather suddenly? I am 48 years old with no history of urinary problems. My symptoms of feeling like I need to pee constantly, burning, overall bladder fullness seemed to have come on overnight. I was tested 3x for a UTI and no infection is present. My gyn said it could be IC. But it seems odd that it would come on so quickly or does happen often? Any insight would be so appreciated!

First of all, I'd like to say to the IC Network. You'll find a wealth of information and support here.

Yes, it's possible for symptoms to come on suddenly. Mine did --- it's been almost 47 years since I was diagnosed. I suspect in my case I actually had IC, but it was dormant for some time, then symptoms triggered by the trauma of a major abdominal surgery (hysterectomy). I have no way I can be certain.

Are you being referred to a urologist? If not, I suggest you request it. And there are some things you can do in the meantime that could help. A voiding diary to take with you to your appointment could help with diagnosis. You might also want to give the IC diet a try to see if that offers any relief --- it's what helps me more than any other single thing.

Please feel free to post any questions that come up --- we're not physicians, but are willing to share information.

    Sending warm healing thoughts,
    Stay safe

Hi Donna, thanks so much for responding. I am seeing a urogynecologist on Friday. I actually initially went to my regular Dr. who suggested IC so I did go straight to a urologist who was not that helpful. Hoping this new doctor can be of more help. I have been on the diet for about 2 weeks but haven’t seen an improvement. I just can’t believe I went from totally fine to this terrible pain and discomfort almost overnight. Thanks again for your help!
