  • Is Elmiron necessary for hunner’s ulcer?

Hi, my name is Büşra and I have IC over a year but recently been diagnosed. I was supposed to be on Elmiron right now, but I am scared and I do not take it. Because I do not trust my doctor. He is not knowledgable about IC and I have hunner’s ulcer. I will change my doctor, but right now I cannot. I kind of regret that I did not take Elmiron properly. Should IC patient with Hunner’s ulcer use it definitely. Can anyone please lighten me up. I feel so helpless

To answer your question --- no, you do not have to take Elmiron --- there are many other treatment options available. Whether you opt for any medication or treatment is your decision to make. In the case of Elmiron --- I encourage you to research long term side effects of this medication --- there are reports of vision problems with long term use. I have Hunner's ulcers and am not able to tolerate Elmiron due to a headache side effect, but I do well without it.

Are you following an IC diet? If not, I suggest you begin today. You'll find a link to diet information in my signature below.

    Sending warm healing wishes,
    Donna
