  • Bad Back Pain

Hey, ya'll. On Friday night my lower back started hurting to the point that I am not walking properly. It always hurts, but not this badly. I'm taking vicodin and wearing those ThermaCare heat pads. (great invention by the way) But I still hurt. Now, I desperately NEED to find a doctor here. I looked on the local hospital website and it really wasn't any help. I am going to call some friends from church and ask them their opinions of some doctors. Personally, I prefer Nurse Practitioners. They have (& take) more time than Docs. But I just wanted to let you know that things are not going so well right now and I could use your prayers for a release from pain. Thanks again, and always. Michelle in AR

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear about your back problem, I know the feeling, and I agree the Thermacare pads are the greatest invention. Hope that you can find some doc or Nurse Practitioner to take care of you, I also agree about Nurse Practitioners, I have a wonderful one, who is in charge of my care, and always has time to sit, talk, and really listen to what you are saying. She sees me regularly every two months, and keeps a close eye on me, she is the greatest. I also have a great urologist, who is the same way and always has time to sit, answer questions, and really listen to what you are saying. Prayers and let us know how you are doing, hugs Iris.
Today and every day you are loved, so don't be anxious about tomorrow, God will take care of you tomorrow; Live one day at a time.

Michelle, you poor girl, it just never seems to end for you! If you look in the phone book, ususally in the front, it gives a number for the state board of docs in your state. If you call them, they will reccomend 3 docs for you.If all else fails, get yourself to the ER. I am so sorry that you hurt so bad. Please take care...hugs, Sheri
Wishing you the best, today, tomorrow, and always! Sheri G

Michelle~I to suffer from sever back pain. When it's so bad that it wakes me up screaming, there is NO DOUBT that an infection is involved. 9 out of 10 times I need to be cultured tho. I keep bottle here that I take from the dr's office and I cath the catch so that I know that it's clean and sterile.

warm fuzzy hugs headed your way~
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow".

                  Hey Michelle,
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. It must be in the water or something. I think since the holiday stress we are all having flares. Did you try the doctor in North Little Rock we spoke about last year? I'm still going to him and have had great results. Between him and my regular family doctor, I haven't felt better. See my post regarding Anitihistimines. That's the only "oops" I have had lately. Hope you feel better soon! Warm water and heating pads! Thank God for Natural gas and electricity!!!

Hi Michelle! I like your Bible verse; I will keep you in my prayers. I also have back pain. Do you guys think mine is from IC? I don't have the sharp flank pain--it's a dull ache. Also, Michelle and others--do you guys get UTI's on top of this? I know that I have had 2, in the past. I was just diagnosed with IC. So, I'm learning. Thank you! I hope you feel better. BTW, love the name--it is my mom's!

I am so sorry to hear about your back pain. As if it is not enough to deal with IC and the bladder problems, then this comes along.

I was diagnosed with IC this summer and have had a very interesting journey with my health. I too started having back pain. Mine started with feeling a little stiff in the morning, then it proceeded to waking up with my right foot and leg a bit swollen. Finally it got to the point that I could not sit for very long and walking any distance seemed like a marathon to me.

After researching on my old faithful laptop, I decided to ask my Doctor to do a ct scan of my lower back. When they did I asked for a copy of the scan ( I always get a copy of any xrays and I have them send me a copy of any medical records for tests, procedures and appointments.
This has helped me a lot as I got from Doctor to Doctor.) Anyway, when comparing my lower back to healthy and unhealthy xrays on the net. I noticed my L-5 and S-1 discs seemed to be bulging ever so slightly. When they sent me the radiologist's report, it mentioned this every so lightly and they felt nothing was too out of the ordinary so nothing was done.

I finally went to a Pain Management specialist and was discussing the pain in my abdomen. I discussed with him about the pain in my back also.

I was so surprised to hear that neither of these pains were directly from IC. All along the pain in my right pelvic area which is my major complain, has been atributed to referred pain from my IC. Well, first off, that was not so. I had damaged nerve tissue from my first bladder repair two years ago and now they are giving me bi-monthly trigger shots and it is amazing how much it helps.

The Doctor also said that my lower back had bulging discs that were leaking fluid onto my nerves causing me back pain. Yesterday, I had my third epidural pain block and I am amazed at what a difference it makes. I walk like a normal person now and only seem to have problems sitting when I sit on a hard chair.

The pain in my pelvis is stil screaming at me but he says since I have had this problem for so long it will take a while for the inflammation to settle down and resume it's normal condition.

Best wishes on your journey to good health.

Just remember to be your own health care advocate and listen to your inner voice and to your own body. Every time I go to a doctor with a problem, they seem so unsure of what to do. I just get on my trusty laptop and search for information on the problem and bring any reliable and credible information on the problem and these doctors seem to respect that and use the info if needed.

Please email if I can be of any support.

                          Sweet thoughts.
