Ovarian cysts can be a sign of endometriosis. endometriosis and IC symptoms can mimick each other. depending on where the growth is it can cause urinary frequency, urgency, ect. I had an ovarian cyst rupture in 09. but didnt change my IC symptoms

When I had my second bout of UTI (or what I thought was UTI) that wasn't clearing up, I had a pelvic ultrasound done that showed a corpus luTeal cyst on my left ovary. That subsequently dissapeared over the next menstrual cycle and mysteriously enough, so did the urinary frequency. I definitely believe there is a connection!

I also have a cyst on my right ovary now and my gyno put me back on the pill for 2 months to try to shrink it. I was diag with IC in Jan. and never to my knowledge had cysts before that. I am from Texas, has anyone ever heard of the Roby Institute in Austin? I have been doing research on them. They treat chronic disorders ( including IC and claim to have a 65 % rate if they find it is hormonal) It is considered a holistic approach, but they also use conventional meds. They believe that this is all due to hormones being off balanced and causing irritation in your system, they treat using hormone shots and hormone drops under the tongue. Not saying that I am rushing over there, but their info on their web site was really interesting on IC. Since I am so new to this I was just looking for some other opinions.

    Ovarian Cysts

I too suffer from ovarian cysts. I have a very large one on my left ovary as we speak. They are monitoring it via transvaginal ultrasound. The last time they checked it was 5 cm. That was about 5 weeks ago. They are supposed to be checking it again soon. Ever since I took fertility treatments (2 years ago), I've been getting cysts on both ovaries. I've had IC for years with no cysts. I think the nature of the hormones was what caused mine.

I've had about ten or so.... while I was in college. I had one or two the first year... and then the second year... I had cysts on both ovaries. They thought they saw 6 or 7 on the sonagram. To my knowledge, noone has studied this with IC... but they should. It's fascinating.

Well I would say that would be somthing for them to check out for sure. I to have had Cyst all my life. Every since I started my periods. I was put on BC at the age of 12 just because of them. The pain that they would case each month. I had a tumor on my left ovary removed along with the ovary about 2 and half years ago. I had my 3rd child in September and had to have a hysterectomy in December. I had another cyst that consumed my ovary and was about the size of a man's fist as I was told. Now I was DX with the IC just last week and I keep telling my self.......I thought this pain would go away once I had the Hyst. But I guess not. I have started on the Elmorin, and Soma, and also Vicodin. But I have been taking the V for every. I switched DR's and he gave me Soma. For what I'm not sure yet. Doesn't do much in the way of helping the pain. I have also started to have these weekly "treatments" where they put the numbing med inside my bladder. Trying to see if that works. Sorry I started to go on. But Yes I to have had the Cyst problems

I've had at least 2 that I know about. The first one was small and they just gave me some meds to shrink it. The second one was much much bigger and twisted my tube, which by the way hurt like H***!!! They had to go in and take that one out. That was when Griffin was 6 months old so it was about 2years ago and I haven't had any cysts that I know about since then and was diagnoised with IC in Nov. I don't know if they are related at all but from what I hear cysts are very common so probably not.

I've had a cyst in my left ovary since 1998. Since I am currently menopausal, the cyst is monitored via tranvaginal sono every three - four months to check for changes. (My gynecological oncologist said that it's not normal and needs to be checked.)

It occurred at first during perimenopause but has remained.

They tell me it's small but I wonder too how all this can be related?

    Hey,
Great answer! I think mine is quite close to my fallopian tube and I am nearer menopause (I think after having 5 children, I used up a bunch of eggs!...Just kidding around.) No PCOS here, and I have treated several women with this disorder (their mental state) in my practice.
But IC is definitely effected by hormones.
I take a low dose BC Pill now, and took larger doses back in the eighties, when they were not as in tune to how much we actually needed.
I have also had a kidney stone, but heck, lots of peole have.
I am getting used to this forum, so I am apoligizing to ALL if I have posted on the wrong thread or forum area.
Let me get this in....the first time that i ever had a hint of what IC was ...the insertion of a catheter before the C-section of my 4th child.....and it is true that I, like so many, many of people here, have had my share of UTI from my late teems to about 5 yrs ago. We all share some commonalities that are interesting. If we have a genetic area, I would like to talk about heredity too...with 3 kids who have symptoms after certain foods, well, you can imagine!
    Thanks for the great answer.

(I love posts like this that are so educational yet filled with common sense too. As someone who has also had lots of cysts, I appreciate this answer greatly. Definitely worthy of mention! - Jill O.)

This is a good question for the hormone forum, but here is my suspicion:
Ovarian Cysts are formed when ovulation fails to occur and the egg becomes trapped in the casing which continues to fill with hormone rich fluid. This stretches the ovary like a balloon. These are common as one gets close to menopause. This is the most common indication that a hormone problem is present, most of this type of cyst is called a follicular cyst.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS is the most common hormone disorder in women of reproductive years. It has multiple causes which can result in facial and body hair growth but loss of hair on the head, weight gain, insulin resistance. You are more at risk of PCOS if your first period started before age 11, if you have been treated with antidepressants, antiseizure medications for long periods of time[/COLOR], You have thin arms and legs but a Buddha belly, you have started losing hair.
So-is there a correlation between IC and cysts? Probably at least a relationship because if a persons hormones are in perfect balance they are healthy, no sick. Also by ingesting the medications for a long time like we all do we are more at risk for medication side effects. IC and menopause do have a high correlation and that is a time of a hormone starvation.
I dont know if this helps answer your question, but all body systems are synergistic and when one is having a hissy fit, the rest are also responding to some extent.

I have had a lot of cysts. They have been removed twice by laps and twice by abdominal surgies. My ovaries are now gone so hopefully this is the end of the nightmare. However, with my luck I have an ovarian remnant!- Vicki

started a topic DDo Ovarian Cysts have a relationship with IC?

DDo Ovarian Cysts have a relationship with IC?

I have been reading lots of posts trying to get to know this community. I have also noticed that a few gals talk about having a cyst on an ovary. I have had an ovarian cyst for about 4 years. We keep an eye on it with ultrasounds. Now my question to any of you, is: Have there been any studies or mention of ovarian cysts in regard to IC? Or is this just one of those things that some of us have....? Just thinking out loud here. Kinda freaky, and maybe cysts are just plain common.
    Thanks-
