    Hello,
I was diagnosed with IC in November, the day before Thanksgiving. I have found that by using the book "A Taste of The Good Life" for my eating that my flares are fewer and that is a blessing. I do have a questions for others out there, though. What do you take for things like headaches or mild aches and pain? I found that simple aspirin or ibuprophin cause me flares. I am wondering if there is some OTC or do I need a script for this? Also, I recently moved to Grand Rapids, MI and there is no support group here and I haven't found a doctor yet. Any others from this area who can steer me in the right direction?

I usually take a couple of tylenol if I have a headache.

HI Welcome! Tylenol is my 'drug of choice' too. That's the only thing I can take that doesn't cause flares. Roxie

For IC I use Elmiron, Elavil and Freeze dried Aloe Vera (it works likes Elmiron, but naturally)and Azo as needed. I also take Zegerid, Randitine for Barrett's Esophagus. (which causes me to have constant yeast infections!)I take Cymbalta for Neuopathy/Myopathy pain. I use the Climara patch for menopause symptoms. I'm on a very strict diet because of the IC, IBS and Gastric Bypass. I take Primal Defense Probiotics and whole food Iron.
I no longer have the awful urethral pain! I've been using MSM gel now for 4 mo. and haven't had a flare up or the urethra pain.....it's amazing stuff!!:woohoo:

What is this MSM gel for uretha burning? I'm new to all this. I've been taking the Elmiron since mid November and sticking to a strict diet but the ureatha burning is still bugging me.

Hi Jan; My name is stacy I also live in Michigan. But in mt. Pleasant. Here too there is no suport groups. I wish there was though it be nice to have a place go to to.
I have found just over a year now that i have IC. Its a very frustrating condition to deal with.
Also you might want to try useing Prelief. You can get it at walgreens or Ritaid. That helps reduce the acid in the urine.
You can also get Pryidium. Thats also works great with the bladder pain and urithria pain. I never had any flares from takeing medications from tylonal or mortin.
But I like to use a product that is from india acculy(in not indian). But was my ex-boyfriends. Its like a balm for headachs also. Here you can get something simular called Tiger Balm. I belive now they even have patches for pain. Its simular to the Icy Hot balm. But made for headachs. You rub it onto the spots where it hurts your head or your neck or sinuses. The trick is to rub it well in to the area. It works really great. You can get it at wal-mart, or walgreens, any place like this has it. I acculy think they keep it near ICY HOT. But if you dont want to take any pills, this works well, at least for me. maybe worth a try.
Good luck hope it works for you. Hope your feeling better.
          take care
