  • MEd list, can they cause me not to go potty?

    HI everyone;
I know some of you mentioned some medicans can cause some issues to go to the batheroom properly. So i thought i would put down my huge list of meds.
    Daily:
    Elmiron 400mg
    macrodantin 100mg
    topamax 75mg
    Seasonique .15mg
    Provera 10mg
    Elavil 150mg
    Lexapril 10mg
    Zantac 150mg
    prilosec 20mg
    Synthroid 100mg
    Cyanacobalamin(b12) injection
    As needed:
    Pyridium 100mg
    Flexeril 10 mg
    Motril 800mg
    toridol 50mg
I am not sure if any of these will cause it. Maybe so. I did look over Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, seems like yeah maybe it could be something that is also going on right now also. My doctor wants me to go for PT, but what kind of PT could they possibly be doing? If its what i think it is, umm I just dont know if i can handle that. I am not to much int being poked inside by strangers.
And if I do have the Pelvic floor dysfunction, is that treated by urologist or by some other type of a doctor? I am confused. I have way to many conditions going on. I just dont know who to see and more.
They say First Endo,-and that was for 10 years. Then i change doctors, and they say no endo. Then I am told I have IC. Then in November, I am told I have Endo again,lol.. Now my Uro tells me this week, I am not so sure its IC, which i had a differant doctor who did the 1st Cysto/hydro.But he seen it so i guess there is no mistaken it. But then she tells me I have this Pelvic floor dysfunction.
On top of that last summer, I have migrains, pernecious anemia(not able to absorb b12 and iron threw the stomach), hypothyroide, which just 2 weeks back i find its went low again so now have to increase the dosage, and also then Low blood sugar. Not to mention the IBS, and constant constipation, and the lactose intolorance, and they hiatal hernia which is causeing major acid reflux.
Really like i needed one more thing to be added to the list of medical issues.
WEll if anyone knows about these meds from experiance and if you have the PFD, and have had the PT, let me know what you have experianced. JSut couriouse. I am not even sure yet if my insurance will pay for the PT, I have to call them. But i have a feeling if they do i will have to drive 45 mins to get there. Which i cant aford now.
thanks everyone for all your help and info. Its so wonderful to get first hand advice from people who have gone threw it. Its Not good we have gone threw it, but nice to know the real deal. So a big thanks to everyone for their time.

    Hi Stacy.
I was looking up some of your meds, and could not find them all in my pill book, but I do know that elavil can cause urinary retention. I am not sure about the other meds. I highly doubt that pyridium, macrodantin, zantac, prilosec,or your thyroid med would cause any issues though. I am not sure about the flexeril, toridol and a couple of the others.

It could be PFD I suppose. Do you also have trouble with having bowel movements? Usually with PFD, you also have constipation issues as well. I wish I had more info for you. Maybe someone else will chime in that has more info for you. I pray you get better soon. I pray we all do.

        Hi,
Ohh yeah i have major constipation for year, but was told it was cos of the IBS. The doc gave me the Elivil cos my pelvis and vaginl muscels are so tight it hurts. Litterly you couldnt push anything in there even if you wanted to! Thats why she gave me that. But if it causes the retention, its not a good thing at all!
        Thanks for the info everyone!

I definitely have some issues with meds causing my retention (see list below) or if I take too much of a pain killer (like 2 Percocets) I will have issues.

My urologist said most people with IC don't have retention issues but I see many posts of people having the same issues I do ... which is nice to know I am not alone but how do I tell my doc he is wrong about his information?
          Tara (tbokay)

          Age almost 33! (4/27)
Single - no kids, but 1 cat, Bianca QT
Diagnosed mild IC in Oct 2004 - but on 11/7/05 told I DO NOT have IC (even though 2 other doctors agree that I DO have IC)
2nd cystoscopy 10/6/06 confirms I DO have IC! 3 out of 4 urologists agree ... It's not in my head!

9/11/06 Urodynamic results - bladder wont hold more than 200cc without causing retention due to lack of strength in bladder to start urine flow.
5/3/06 had IVP that revealed "mild swelling" of right kidney and ureter due to "recurrent infections or urine backup into kidney"
4/13/07 - started RMSO once a week for six weeks - ON HOLD DUE TO INFECTION!!! Scheduled to start again 5/4/07.

          Past meds:
          Elmiron - severe nausea
          Prosed - triggers migraines
Fentanyl - 3 day pain patch - lasted 36 hrs before I had to remove due to adverse reaction
          Vicodin - stopped working
          Tramadol - caused urine retention
          Fioricet - caused urine retention
          Nitrofurantoin (antibiotic for 3 months)
          Celebrex 200 mg
Pyridium 200mg (for 30 days supply)

            tboky....

Well I think your doctor is wrong, because when im flaring, I feel I have to go really bad, but onlya small amount comes out..I think there are many more IC sufferers that have the same problem..I know it could be due to PFD, but I feel its IC related to...

I have learned that you cant argue with these doctors, their ego's are to big. If you try and tell them what you know, they dont like that for some reason. AT least most doctors dont like that. I have only 1 good doctor,my gastroenterologist and he is always open to suggestions that I may have. There are just not many "good" doctors out there. I think they hand out these medical liscence's to easily these days.
