  • New to the site-18yr/f

Hey guys! My name is Becca and I just joined the site around a month ago, still trying to figure out how to post and read other stories. I'm 18 years old and from Pennsylvania, and I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis August 26 2010. I had started going to my normal doctor around July of 2009 for re-occuring bladder infections and UTI's, and I was given the normal antibiotics to try to get rid of those. The medicine never worked and the infections kept coming back. They started getting worse my senior year of highschool (Sep. 09'-May 10'). I graduated highschool in May of 2010 and started beauty school August 2 2010. That was when my pain in my bladder was the worst, the pain caused me to miss a lot of school and I had to get withdrawn due to missing so many days in around November.

August 25th I actually ended up going to the ER because I couldn't drive home the pain got so bad, I had very intense throbbing in my bladder and extreme burning when I urinated. Thankfully the next day was when I went to go see a new urologist. I had went to a Dr.*** and he was the WORST urologist I have ever seen! He didn't do anything and when I had mentioned about my kidneys having pain in them, he shrugged it off and said he couldn't help me with that.

August 26th I went to go see a urologist named Dr. Echenberg and was extremely pleased. The appointment was a little over 3 hours but he had sat down with us and went through everything so thoroughly. I have had trouble following the diet and to be honest I don't follow it for the most part and I know that is a BIG part of getting better, it's just been really hard.

    I'm on:

    Elmiron- 1morning, 2night
Nortriptylin- 2night (low dose antidepressant, supposed to help with pain)
    Hydroxyz HCL- 2night

If anyone wants to give feedback or talk, feel free! Thanks for all of the help!

You'll find the 2009 IC/PBS Food List at the link in my signature below. It's really a huge help in following an IC diet. I know it's a challenge, but it's very much worth the effort.

        IC can be very painful

Im sorry to hear you have IC. Im 32 yrs old and it has been a real struggle for me. Before i was diagnosed i went to my gyn dr. and he said it was part of being
a women having this pain. I kept having awful throbbing pain in my bladder i would end up at the ER several times. All they would give was morphine for the pain. Which it would make me sleepy and as soon as i would wake up, i had the horrible pain again. After many doctors visits and many so called UTi's and antibiotics that were not helpful, I finally went to urologist about 2 years ago and he has been a blessing and very understanding. He has help me through very difficult times. Im currently on Elmiron 3 times a day, Imipramine 2 before bed, and Lyrica 2 times a day. Im currently been having pain for about a week. I feel a little better today. I really hope you can get your Ic under control. Trust me no one who doesnt have IC can understand what you're going through, so good luck
        my thoughts are with you

I am 40 yrs old and the diet is challenging

In the beginning, I was feeling deprived and depressed. So much, that I had to have counseling.

I begin to experiment with some of the recipes located on this site. At first, I hated not being able to eat what I wanted. Overtime I am starting to enjoy the pleasures of cooking. I was really shocked at the number of foods that I could prepare with my new IC recipes. Eating out was a huge challenge. There are post to help with this.

          Hang in there:woohoo:
