  • Painful sex!

    Hello everyone!

I was diagnosed with Chronic IC 10 years ago at the age of 20 and sex has never been painful during intercorse apart from the last 6 weeks! It has always been afterwards the burning came! and now its during sex and its making my life a misery! I only see my BF on the weekends and want to make love but when we try after a while it just feels like I am on fire down there! so we stop and take things really slow so he is barely moving at all (sorry for the graffic image!!!) Its always better when I am on top but any other position hurts! and my bits afterwards I swear if I looked down there would be flames!!! If anyone has any tips I would really appreciate it! and does anyone else get pain like this!!!????? xxxxxxx

I get awful pains as well when I have sex with my husband. My urologist said more foreplay. We tried that and it did not help. I wish I could give a helpful answer. Maybe someone will respond with a helpful answer. I would like to know how to make the pain go away during intercourse.

I would like to know any tips about this as well. I MISS being intimate with my husband. THAT is part of who we were/are/were, I don't even know anymore. I just know that the very THOUGHT of it HURTS and I LOVE my husband and I know he never wants to hurt me. But I feel as though IC has put a brick wall between us.
Tonight, both my kids are gone from the house. "Normally" this would be a time for US!!! I just feel like we've both been ripped off. And it makes me SO angry. I want that part of my life back!!! I have told him and I don't know if this would work, but almost all of my pain comes from my bladder which is waaaaay too too close for sex. But I'm going to ask my Uro if he would teach me to do instillations at home. Then if I can instill something like Marcaine or Lidocaine and numb my bladder, maybe that would give me enough relief to be able to resume SOME sort of sex with my husband. I don't know if anyone has tried this, but if you have, please let me know. It's the only little bit of hope I have left.

I'm so sorry for everyone who has to go thru this. IC has taken SO much from me/us. I just want a little bit back.

I just thought I should pass this on. I looked up Sylk lubricant online and it contains grapefruit extract (as the 3rd ingredient) and citric acid. I myself will not be trying this but I looked it up because I'm deperate for help in this area of my life. Im not sure, for myself, that this would help. But good luck to you if you do try it.

Aloe vera gel is supposed to be super gentle and healing. Desert Harvest makes a gel that can be used for intimacy or alone as it has healing properties. Also I think using a lidocaine gel externally before and after sex would help as it is in an anesthetic.

Gelnique for frequency/urgency - works great
            Macrobid after sex

I'm sorry you're experiencing painful sex. I started having IC symptoms in Oct. and it got horrible and then tapered to discomfort. I'm on elavil and klonopin but have just started to get pelvic physical therapy with Isa Herrera. I believe it really makes a difference. Even if you think you just have IC, I believe it affects many more things that just the bladder and this is more than just a strictly bladder disease. Try physical therapy and hot showers before/after. Good luck.

I have the exact same problem! My dr says its my vulvodynia acting up. Right after sex I always pee, and then wash down there with a warm wash cloth. If its raw I use aquafora. (I think thats how its spelled) It helps with it be raw and hurting. Try using a cold pack and dont wear underwear to sleep. Hope this helps!

This is the link for tips on intimacy on this site. Also a highly recommended lubricant is astroglide. Good luck, I know this is the hardest part of having IC.
