The other day we decided on the spur of the moment to drive from Orlando to the Space coast to watch the shuttle launch. This is normally about an hour to hour and half trip, a streach for my bladder but if I limit fluids I can ussally make it, if needed we just get off the hwy and find a place for me to use the restroom. I had packed drinks, snacks etc, but in a hurry. I am ussally very well organized.

Well we decided to take a toll hwy, but we didn't know it was bumper to bumper for 50 miles and no place to pull off at, no rest areas. We were in a convertable it was hot, I had to drink some. It turned out to be over a 3 hour drive.

Needless to say I was in agony I had to pee so bad, I go every 30 mins at most. At the first place we could stop we did, there was a lineup of quite a few people a head of me and only one washroom, just my luck. the shuttle was to lauch within mins. I was dying but did not feel I could ask the lineup if I could go a head of them, there were all in the boat as me, and some were small kids. I am quite sure some people would have let me go ahead but I just couldn't ask. The store workers called out 2 mins to launch, most of the people left the line yeah, I was up next no way was I leaving even if it ment missing the launch. What i didn't realize was the workers wanted us to get out so they could go out and watch too. Oh well.

I ended up having time to go and my mom too and get out to see the lauch. I would have gladly given up seeing the lauch to pee.

But for me if I have to go and don't go then I can't go, but I got lucky I was able to go some and them after the lauch some more, then more at dinner before the bumper to bumper drive home. It increased my retention for a few days but things are settling down now, but time will tell if this will have caused me to get a UTI, for me this is enough to cause a UTI.

I am kicking myself because I have travel Johns but in my panic I could not find it in my bag, I had just changed bags and figured I missed moving it. I found it in my bag when I got home just where it should be.

The first thing I did was order more of them so I can leave one in each vehical we have and a couple in each of my bags.

I made a note to self never be caught short again, it is not worth the pain.

I was in tears by the time I got home.

    Just needed to kick myself.

I would have done all that just to have gotten to see the launch! I never got to see one and now I never will. We almost got to see it once when we were leaving for a cruise but the weather didn't cooperate and we missed it. Bummer Glad you are doing better now and that after all that you didn't miss anything.

Oh my goodness, MG. I was feeling your pain as I was reading the post!
Glad you made it okay without any, umm, unpleasant plumbing failures!
At least you got to see the launch. I always wanted to see one of those, but never made it. Must be exciting.
BTW, what is a travel John?

        Hi

Years ago we went 4 or 5x's to watch a launch and each time it didn't go, so I was skeptical before we went weather it was worth it, but it was a day out and I was feeling pretty good so figured okay.

Yes even with the discomfort and pain etc. it was worth it to see the launch. I heard on the news that 150K usally attend a launch, they figure there was approx 300k at this one, no wonder it was so busy. If it didn't go that day then it was going to try again the next day.

There is still 2 more schedualed, but I won't be here for them.

Yes it was awsome to see and worth the hassel for sure.

Travel John is a little thing you can pee in and it gels so the urine dosen't leak back out. You can buy them from the IC site, but they were out of stock so I ordered them from Amazon.com

So a must have for traveling any distances.

Like Laurie, I was feeling your pain while reading your post! I guess I never gave it any thought that this event would create traffic problems.

That's wonderful that you were able to see the launch! It's something which has always been on our list of things to do, but we never got around to it.

For some reason I was thinking this was the last one? Maybe there's hope for us yet!
