  • Scared..!

Hi everyone.. I'm new to the board and am so glad I found it. It's good to know you're not alone in this insanity..

I've had IC for about 5 years..mine seems to be exclusively sex-related. That is, I have pain after sex only. (and occasionally after a bowel movement), but that is it. When I am not having sex I have no issues, but I am currently living with my partner and it drives me insane to not be able to have a normal sex life with him.

Until recently my IC would only come in flares every few weeks or months - I could still keep somewhat of a normal sex life. It was only recently that it has taken a turn for the worse and I have pain after every single sex session.

So far I had been taking antibiotics (ciprofloxacin 500 mg), not sure why but for some reason they stop the pain and urethral bleeding for me. I think having to take it every day for the rest of my life is crazy though.. so only now that my symptoms are worse have I begun to look at other options. Still very new to this whole thing and not sure what to do, what to try and what not to!

I don't have medical insurance right now so I am trying any herbal/OTC meds that I can find. We took a trip to the health food store and came back with MSM, L-arginine, nettle capsules and Quercetin. I've started taking them tonight, I am not sure if these are supposed to be quick pain relief or rather take a long time to see results. Went to bed fine last night and woke up in the middle of the night with burning bladder and painful urination, so not happy. I need something for pain relief.. ibuprofen doesn't work..not sure what I could take..

My mind is all over the place right now, I just really want my normal life back.
I'm new here so all advice or thoughts are of course welcome.. I'll try anything just to feel better!

    hugs!

You really need to see a physician if at all possible --- you can end up spending the cost of an office visit on things that might or might not help. When I was first diagnosed, I spent an unbelievable amount on trying everything anybody suggested --- but I eventually found that I do best working with a physician.

I hope you feel better soon.

    Warm hugs,
    Donna

      thank you!

thank you Donna. I agree that I need to see a Dr. It's frustrating though - I am originally from Argentina and all Drs there have said basically "well, there's no cure, so just put up with it". Others didn't even know what IC was. I am now in Canada, waiting to be approved for residency here which is why I can't see a docter yet (not a specialist anyway). I am seeing my fiance's family doctor next week and will ask if there is anything she can prescribe to at least help with the pain. But I would love to see a urologist, I now see that there are so many more options than just "put up with it". Sigh..

        Thinking "good thoughts" for you!

I hope you get the help you need soon! I also went for a time with no insurance and had to undergo 2 brain surgeries at the time to remove a tumor.... the help I got was minimal and I was in severe pain for long periods of time. All I can say is keep looking for help. There are some nonprofit organizations out there that will sometimes help to sponsor a surgery or sponsor help you need if you find them. It looks like you are fairly internet savvy, so go online and look for local chapters that might be willing to help you pay for a doctor's visit or help you get your medications. We all need help at some point in our lives and one day when you are better you can give back to the next person who needs it! That's what I had to do! I am praying you get some relief and get the answers you need. Nicki
