  • Newly Diagnosed

    Hello!
I found this group by chance and am so glad I did. I have not be diagnosed by the doctor but she thinks, almost certain, this is what I am suffering from. I had an appendectomy in 2009 and things have never been the same. I remember waking up from the procedure and having to pee every 5 minutes for 2 hours. No pain, just a full bladder. The nurse remarked on how strange this was. UTI on X-mas eve 2009 and put on Macrobid which I had a allergic reaction too. Then onto cipro. It didn't go away. Next doctor put me on Avelox (Horrible side effects, will never ever ever take again). Come to find out recently my UTI test came back trace amounts of bacteria and she put me on this drug! Had a few times where I though I had a UTI in the next few years, would take cranberry (I prefer natural routes if possible). Since I have gone to the doctor with UTI pain, explain to them and they take a test, it comes back trace amounts and I am put onto an antibiotic. Symptoms seem to go away in about 5 days. Many doctors have said kidney stones with no proof.
I finally have gone to a urologist and she did a ultrasound, said everything looks normal. I gave her all my past tests and she said that the amounts of bacteria are trace and not enough to rule for a UTI. I also explained that my bladder has never felt as strong as it was pre appendectomy. It always feels weak. Then the flares are tear provoking and usually last about 5 days. So now every time I have a flare I am to see her in the office so she can rule out UTI and see if anything changes on the ultrasound.

I have received the info on the IC diet which makes me very frustrated. I have had IBS since I was 12, I am now 29 and when I was about 22 I went vegan and my IBS is pretty much non existant! The diet includes many things I love so I am having a hard time with it. I love fruit, wine, chocolate and spicy food. I mean I LOVE spicy food but I dont know if that is a tigger for me. I am experimenting with it.

I flare about once every few months (expect this month I am in my 2nd flare). I am trying the Aloe, cystoprotek and advil seems to help me. Lots of water and a bit of baking soda. When it gets to the point I can't stand I take the stuff that turns your pee orange. I also sit with a pillow you warm up in the microwave or take a hot bath.

I am getting to the point I dont know what to do about work. Right now I work in a place I can go to the bathroom when needed but I can't do this everywhere. I am thinking about working from home options.

Thanks for listening to my story. I hope to learn what helps everyone here and hope to beat this! After suffering from IBS for 10 years and finding just changing my diet to a vegan one make it disappear was amazing! Now I feel I am at square one with a similar problem for a different area!
