  • Is there a correlation

About three months ago when I was diagnosed with IC, (still some question), I told my uro that the whole thing started with a UTI. The first I had in more years than I can remember. Last week I had to go to Urgent Care and was again diagnosed with a UTI. That makes two in about 9 months. Do other sufferers of IC seem to get more UTI's. Am curious.

I used to get them a lot, but then my doctor started me on an antibiotic after I have sex... that solved my issue. I haven't gotten one since.

I have seen quite a few people here say they have never gotten them in their life, and still have IC though.
    Symtoms started July 2010.
    Severe pelvic floor pain only.

    2 time PT graduate!
In medical remission since August 2011; able to eat and drink anything I want currently.

    IC meds:
200 mg Elmiron in the morning
    100 mg Elmiron @ night
    Macrobid after intercourse

Yes, I have seen that quite a bit where sexual relations will either cause a flare or a UTI. I wish that was my problem but unfortunately due to a medical condition, hubby and I haven't been that close since before I got this. Am stopping by the doc's to have urine sample tested to make sure I am over it!!! It was not fun to say the least. Back to daytime discomfort now. Before this last UTI, I had gone 6 days w/o a symptom. It felt soooppp good. Another bump in the road of life.

I have never had one either.
          28 yrs old,

I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 4 years now!) HOT showers!!!

Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil (flaring) Vitamin D, WILD salmon oil 4x gels in the morning, Women's ONE a DAY multivitamin (the gummy kind doesn't make me flare) and PROBIOTICS!

My IC started off with a UTI that just never seemed to go away. The bacteria cleared up, but the symptoms of burning and frequency remained. That was 21years ago. I didn't get a diagnosis or proper treatment until about ten years later. It took seeing three UROs before I got a diagnosis and some real help.

I started having back to back bladder infections 3-1/2 years ago, due to a lack of estrogen. Estrace Cream got me back on track. In those 3-1/2 years I have only had 2 UTIs, and they happened when I had forgotten to use the Estrace Cream. I use it three times a week, and those 2 times, I had only used it twice.

My IC started with UTI's and then just what we thought since the symptoms were the same. I was later of course dx with IC. I do get UTI's but they are few and far between-last one I had was about 2 years ago.

Went back to my GP for a urine check and still had trace white cells. Back on Cipro for UTI. Symptoms have been abating but now I have a case of yeast infection thanks to the antibiotics. I was given Premarin cream to use twice a week and keep forgetting it. Guess I should start using it if it may help with the UTI's

I had a few - maybe about one a year starting when I was 30. Then at 39 I got a UTI that seemed to morph into something different after about a couple days of symptoms. That was when the IC started. I haven't gotten a UTI since, though.

I don't know if I had more or less UTIs than others. I do know that my mom and mother in law both told me that they went through periods in their lives when they had lots of UTIs, but then it stopped, and they never got IC.
