  • My Story

My name is Mary and I am from OH. Every since I was a little girl I have always had problems with my bladder but back then my mother didn't take me to the doctor, she just tried to doctor me herself with water and cranberry juice. And besides this disease that we all have called IC wasn't heard of back then. As I grew older my symptoms subsided and I thought no more really about it. Then when I was about 28 yrs old I started having thoes stupid infections again. I went to different doctor's and took different medicine's and about 2 yrs later I finally found a doctor that could diagnose my problem. At first the doctor seemed very caring and concerned and he treated me with some sort of medicine that was instilled into my bladder and after 20 minutes I could go to bathroom and discharge it. That worked wonders for me and I really didn't have to go see him as often as I thought because that medicine he used really worked wonders. So my symptoms started getting bad again and I made an appointment to see him and he came in my room and pretty much half yelling and half lecturing me told me he couldn't help me and didn't know why I was even there. Needless to say I left crying and upset. I continued to have symptoms and even about 1/3 of the time I truly have a UTI and so I went to a doctor in another town close by and he confirmed that I had the disease IC. He wrote me a prescription for Elmiron and I took that stuff for probably 2 yrs but I quit taking it because it is not a cure and it is not like it really helped and it also is a blood thinner which makes it hard to take certain types of meds that contain or are related to aspirin. Over the past 6 months I have had at least 3 UTI's but I get so tired of running to urgent care and so I doctor myself with AZO. I also am looking for a female Gynecologist in or close to Columbus OH because I feel that being a female she would be able to more understand how I feel with the UTI's and the flares. It is just really hard not being able to enjoy the foods and drinks that you once could. I would pay just about anything if I could just have some fresh pineapple or a cup of Starbucks peppermint mocha but without a direct miracle from God I guess that is only a dream. But if anyone has any info on a female doc for me please let me know asap. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for listening.

I also live in Columbus Ohio

    Hello,
I am so sorry for all of your trouble. I went through the same things you are going through now and I'm here to tell you that there are caring doctors out there for you. I live in Columbus Ohio and I see a wonderful doctor who diagnosed me and is now treating me. You can message me if you would like his information. He is a man but he is a specialist in OBGYN and is the head of OBGYN at riverside hospital. He has been practicing for about 20 years and has always treated me with compassion and respect. I have had woman gynecologists before and he has been a godsend. I would also normally prefer a woman but ever since I was referred to him I refuse to see anyone else. I hope this helps some and if you need his contact info just let me know and I shall send it to you. I also get UTI's quite frequently and they make me come in immediately for an urine dip and get me taken care of immediately. The nurses are also very compassionate and respectful. Nobody ever makes me feel any less than anybody else or tell me it's my fault. No doctor should make anyone with these disease feel that way. Again I am so sorry for your difficulties and I have been through the ringer myself a few times but once you find the right doctor you will feel so relieved. Hope this helps!
