  • Newly diagnosed with IC

I am so happy to find this forum. As you all know, being diagnosed with IC is frustrating and a little scary. I've had a long history of UTI's and when my urine tests started coming back negative, I just wanted to know what was going on with my body. I've been in almost constant pain and discomfort for 3 months now. I've done a lot of research, started Elmiron and am logging my food/drink to hopefully identify what is causing flare ups. The pain and discomfort has affected my quality of life! I've accepted it and am looking forward to working with my Urologist to find a way to improve this. It gives me a little comfort to have somewhere to go and ask questions and read about other peoples trials and tribulations. It looks like a long road ahead but there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel? Anyone on Flavoxate for bladder spasms? Feedback?

to the IC Network family. I know you'll find a lot of information and support here.

You mentioned diet --- you'll find the latest food list at the link in my signature below. It's printable and an excellent guide for meal planning.

Hey Donna, I read someone's post yesterday, perhaps yours, about using a heat pack on the bladder to help calm the muscles. It seems to be helping but since I'm in constant pain right now, I've had it on most of the day. Is it too much heat? I don't get into my Urologist for my first appt until next Thursday Thanks for the diet link I started it right away!

If you're using an electric heating pad you need to be sure it has a shut-off if it gets too hot. And it's not a good idea to go to sleep while using an electric pad.

It shouldn't hurt you unless it gets too hot --- be sure to check your skin frequently to be sure it doesn't get burned.
