  • Could my daughter have the same as me?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible for a child to have the same bladder problems as her mum?
As you all know I have had my fair share of bladder problems and still have.
My 16 yr old daughter keeps going to the toilet, and complains about tummy pains and lower back pain too.
She showed me where the pain is, and it seems to be in the bladder and kidney area.
She is always complaining of back pain and has very heavy periods too.
I have tried to get her to see our GP and says she is too busy to be worrying about her health.
I am trying to get her to change her mind, but she does'nt give in too easily.
She has just been accepted for Art College and is elated at the fact she has dreamed about this for years and is now finally there.
I had my own bladder problems when I was pregnant with her, and I know it sounds silly, but did I pass this on to her??
What can I do to help her, especially if I gave it to her in the first place?
I couldn't bear to see her go through what I have had to go through.
I have had IC and PBS for 20+ years.
Tried every medication I can think off.
Had a Clam Cystoplasty with Mitrofanoff in November 2006.
Had a Total Cystectomy, with a neobladder, Urethradectomy and Mitrofanoff review, also had a peristomal hernia repaired.
    4th october 2007.

      Thankyou leelee

      Hi,
      Thankyou for your post.
My daughter is still refusing to go to the doctor.
She is doing her exam's at the moment and with her Art college work, she say's she is too busy to think about it all.
Also, she said that she would much rather think about me instead of herself.
I think you could be right, I did manage to get the birth control pill from the doctor for her.
I tricked her into going to the surgery with me, then I asked the doctor about the pill, she was a little annoyed with me ,but agreed to go it.
Not sure if I could get away with doing that again.
      Might be worth a try!!
Actually thinking about it, I could ask my surgeon about it couldn't I?
Thankyou so much for the advice.

      all the best jill xxx

It's definitely possible for IC to run in families, not because you had symptoms during your pregnancy but because there may be a genetic component to it. I think if things get bad enough for her, she'll probably be willing to go to the doctor. But, if she does have IC, it's probably better for her to get treatment early. So, you've already tricked her; maybe you can try bribing her another time?

Good luck to both of you.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

        Peace, Carolyn

          Mum,
So sorry to hear that your daughter is having problems as well. I hope that you can get her to the doc and figure out what is wrong. I think that all of these things that might be autoimmune have a genetic componet. My mom had endo, I have endo. She thinks she has IBS or at least that's what the cnp at her dr office told her what she probably had and I have IC. It's weird how things run in families. I do think that Ronda is right, it could be endo with the heavy periods but obviously you'll never know for sure unless you get her into a dr to have her checked out. I would sit down and talk to her and tell her that there has been some evidence that IC can run in families and you are worried that she might have it too. Explain the earlier that she gets treatment if that's what she does have the better chance she has of getting her symptoms under control and not having more problems down the road. Good luck to both of you
          Christine

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

              Thankyou !!

              Thankyou ladie's for your replie's,
I have asked my daughter to go with me to a doctor's appointment I have tomorrow afternoon.
Once we are in there I will mention the possibility of her having the same as me.
If she does' not have it then there must be another problem that could be causing her to pee so much.
She did go to the doctor a few weeks ago because she kept being sick, and had heavy period's, she has been given the pill, but was told not to start them until she has her next period.
She has not had a period yet, so she has not started the pill either.
She seem's depressed and tearful too, alarm bell's are ringing and I do not know what step to take next.
I really do appreciate all of the advice you have been giving me thankyou.
              I will keep you posted.

              Hugs Jill xx

I beleive 100% that it can run in families, My father had it, I have it and my two daughters have it (when I say 'it' I mean painful bladder and unable to urinate when small). We have also all been diagnosied with EEC syndrome through a DNA test.

My daughter who is 7 seems to almost have no trouble now although I catherterised her for at leaset 2 years after she was born.

My second daughter is still having trouble she is 3 years old I still cath. sometimes and she still has pain every day as some time of the day.

I think your daughter will seek help, she probable is in denial hoping she hasn't got a problem, I pray she'll see a doctor soon and it is a problem that will be easily fixed.

By the way I was told the pill isn't the best for IC as it can increase the histamine in your body, I have been taking it but have just gone of it to see if it will help me at all??
