• feeling well enough to leave the nest again

Hey college gals,
Well, After I graduated high school in '98 I left home to attend the University of Central Florida. After a year of attending, I was diagnosed with IC and was so miserable that I couldn't attend classes because of the pain and frequency(you know how it is). My parents decided they wanted me to move back home so they could help take care of me and get me help. I was out of school for about a year, trying to get better. After taking MSM for a few months, I went into complete recovery and started back in school at the community college here. Now that I am feeling much better, I will be leaving the nest once again in January to go back to the University. I am so happy that I get to be on my own again, but scared cause I will be entering the nursing program and I don't want to get sick again and have to struggle. Anyways, just excited that I feel like I am kinda normal again and have some what of a life again. Hope school is going well with everyone....I know it is such a struggle with IC and you just want to quit sometimes, but look at what we all deal with everyday.....we are all amazing people. Let's keep posting to eachother about school life and other things so we can vent our frustrations once and a while

Hugs to you all,
Alisha <img src="graemlins/hi.gif" border="0" alt="[hi]" />

Alisha - that is wonderful! It must feel so good!!! That will give other people hope that they can keep some of the dreams they had for themselves before the disease hit.

Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

Hey Alisha! <img src="graemlins/hi.gif" border="0" alt="[hi]" />

I'm sorry for not responding sooner to your post -- I must have missed it!

I'm glad that you found such great results with MSM! And that is fantastic that you are well enough to attend college once again. I was in a similar situation -- I was diagnosed during my 3rd year of university and had to take some time off because I was so sick with IC. I tried everything out there -- and finally Elmiron and the IC diet started to kick in and really helped me. I eventually went back to school, and now 2 degrees later I'm teaching elementary school and I love it!

Thanks for sharing your story and please keep us updated on how you're doing!

Warm hugs,
