  • Going to a music festival with IC... Help!

Okay well, I went to T in the Park last year, and it was a nightmare. Because I had been drinking alcohol, it was a real pain because the toilet facilities were terrible, there wasn't enough toilets, and I always found myself desperate to pee every 15 mins or so, which was really frustrating when I wanted to see a band or something etc, especially with the long queues and horrible toilets. I would have peed au naturale if there were any bushes lol...

Also due to the drinking I had a flare up which was really uncomfortable for a few hours, which meant I had to sit about in a small uncomfortable, smelly tent when eveyone else was having fun in the sun and partying!

I'm not really sure what help I'm asking for, but maybe some suggestions to keep me prepared for this year's festival season? Cutting out drinking is not an option for me because either way I want to party at a festival!

What things should I bring with me to help?
I was thinking maybe getting a she wee? Or buying cystitis saches (even though they don't really work)

    Thanks very much! Holly x

The only advice I can think of is to follow the IC diet carefully --- and stick with bottled water to drink. Travel johns are great if you can find a place to urinate that's out of sight --- like in a tent or behind a bush. If you wear a skirt they are easier to use.

      drink slowly

Def follow the IC diet food wise, but it seems beer doesn't bother me (yet?) I only drink 1 or 2 because I'm not fully sold on the 'it doesn't bother me' yet. Dance around have as much fun as you can!
Take many breaks....NEVER pass up a potty when ever you are around one......that's my two cents
      Good luck

Are you drinking beer? Is there anything else you can drink? I know for me wine and beer are way more hard on my bladder than spirits so if I'm drinking I stick to the cocktails or drink straight up liquor.
Sometimes it's not a matter of excluding an entire food or drink group but finding what makes things the worst and what might have less negative effects.

I've been to many concerts and shows with IC and I always drink. With treatment I have less issues but still can get flares of frequency. Sometimes I don't. It's always a guess or if the stars are aligned correctly...lol. I always try to camp out near a bathroom. Being a male does make it easier. I've voided many times behind the urinals. I'm a firm believer that you should do what you can even with a disease. We only have one life. Might as well make the most of it. Does prelief work for you? What about baking soda with water? Do certain types of drinks bother more. I know for me drinking straight tequila on ice doesn't really boher me. Margaritas also don't bother me much. The wheat bears are also more tolerable than say bud light. With all diseases it's give and take and finding what you can live with. I know for me the IC diet is way too restrictive and I'd rather deal with some symptoms than deprive myself of enjoyment in life. Also, I have yet to find anything that would always cause a flare and my symptoms waxed and waned even when on a strict diet. I think my IC symptoms come and go as they choose so I try to just take it day by day and accept that how I am feeling is how I am feeling and flares will pass as will asymptomatic days. That's just me and we are all different. I'm also lucky that my worst days are now better than my best days used to be and for the most part my symptoms are acceptable and tolerable. My philosophy is to do what you can to improve symptoms but certainly you need to and should continue to live life the best you can. There are many with more serious illnesses than IC that still live full lives. Stephen Hawking comes to mind as does Michal J Fox, Mahamad Ali. Then there is my neighbor who has MS. He can't walk on his own, but yet still lives and does what he can. He is still out there blowing snow in the winter and mowing his lawn in the summer. In his own way he is inspirational to me. Good luck and have a good time this summer.

I love this -- and I love your attitude.
We all have our bad days and IC flares can make anyone miserable. But it's relative. And it's important to remember to be grateful for the little things.

I'm the same way with tequila -- it's one spirit that I've been drinking (on the rocks with a teeny bit of lemon) since this whole IC business started for me umpteen years ago. I also recently discovered a liquor called Tuaca that I enjoy, also on the rocks with a bit of lemon. It's really yummy -- hints of orange and vanilla. And it's a sipper -- a little goes a long way if you know what I mean.

So true....and have as much fun in life as you can! For me, I don't want to drink tequila (that's debel's brew) I'm drinking Makers Mark or Jim Beam with a small amout of Ginger ale or water. I'll also drink a MIller lite because I like the taste not less filling
I have bad flares and frequency issues from time to time. The frequency problem is the worst because I could have it every fifteen min for 3 hours! How can my body produce so much fluid? If I don't drink alot of water durning the day I'll have the worst pain when I pee........bad news when that happens

The frequency is the worst problem for me too. Makes it so awkward when the toilet facilities are terrible. I am definately getting a she wee though! I will look like a weirdo but at least it will save me from walking about for a toilet every 20 minutes...

Well at most festivals here they only really sell beer and cider, so i may take some liquour sorta stuff with me, maybe the stronger it is the less I will have to drink, so the less I will have to pee! Beer and cider will make me pee like a racehorse! lol.

Practice saying "I have a bladder problem, I need to use the restroom now. May I please pass you?"

No point in suffering in long lines.
