Try scrolling to the top of this page and clicking on the Front Page link --- then the Self Help link.

    Re: Heading back to school

There is a super convenient app for the IC diet-I recommend it.The diet is rather restrictive, but it really really works.I suggest you try to follow it quite strictly to begin with.I wish my doctor had not suggested that low acid coffee taken with Prelief or Javacid might be feasible. I could have spared myself months of misery if I had cut it out at the beginning.(we all have our weaknesses).Once you are following the diet carefully - and probably are feeling much better - you can experiment with the foods listed as "try it" - one at a time,to see if you can tolerate it or not.

I'm in the midst of a bad flare right now so I'm kind of freaking out about what it will be like in school. I know that stress makes it worst and I have GAD that is worsened by school so I'm a bit concerned... I haven't tried diet management and I think I'm going to give it a try.

I'm in the exact same boat as you!!! I manage my IC with diet (I can't eat spicy, dairy, soy, or citrus). For the stress, try working out or doing yoga! I like to set an hour aside from my day and do this or just try relaxing with Netflix, a warm bath, or napping!
Inform your professors about IC and that you will miss some classes during the semester. Also, my best advice is to take an online course in place for one of your classes! I did this for my Wednesdays and it was awesome because I could just stay in bed all day and if I had a flare that week it gave me time to really focus on it and put efforts to fix it!

With interstitial cystitis you should qualify for assistance for the disabled --- and arrangements can be made to allow you to go for that degree.

    Thank you,

That's a really good idea. I have contacted them to see if they can help. I'm not sure if I'll qualify for it but it's worth a try

Thanks, I'm really excited! It's been three years since I graduated with my first degree so I'm a little nervous to go back but I'm excited to do something I'm passionate about (nursing)

Check with your school's student services. They may have counseling available for stress management.Since you have a chronic illness, you may qualify for some kind of support in the form of having someone to take notes for you when you must miss class or an official way to let your instructors be aware of your disability and be able to plan for accommodations to enable you to be successful.Congratulations on your return to school!

    Heading back to school

Is any one around here in university/college? I was just wondering how you manage the symptoms and stress. I'm going back to school in Jan and am a little worried about having to miss class because of pain.
Working...
